What are you going to watch over the summer?
It seems like the 2005-06 TV season just started, doesn't it? But in less than two weeks, it will be officially over. As it is, most shows have already shown their season (or series) finales, with only a few left to go over the next week or so. So when Memorial Day hits in a week-and-a-half (jeez... time files), we're going to be facing three-or-so months of reruns and reality dreck like the latest Big Brother.Or are we?
Thank goodness for the cable channels. What they've realized is that it's better to launch new seasons of their original scripted shows away from the crucible of the regular network season and capture the bored and restless masses over the summer.
This is good news for us viewers: just a look at USA Network's home page gives enough reason for summer hope: Monk, The Dead Zone, and The 4400 will all have their season premieres during the next couple of months. FX will be bringing us new seasons of Rescue Me and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia over the summer, too. HBO throws new episodes of Deadwood (enjoy the show while you can) and Entourage at us on June 11. And, of course there's always the continuing seasons of Doctor Who and The Sopranos. (Update: Maybe not. I was told by various people that both shows take breaks in early June.)
Even some of the previously-mentioned reality dreck looks interesting, with NBC giving us a new season of Last Comic Standing and the new Simon Cowell-produced, Regis Philbin-hosted show America's Got Talent. You just never know how good or bad some of this stuff is going to be until it airs, though.
So what are you folks going to try to catch this summer? Is there anything that looks interesting that I missed here? Let me know in the comments.
