At Indy 500, it's McDreamy v. Letterman

rahal letterman racing; indianapolis 500I just started writing this post about how Patrick Dempsey and David Letterman both are co-owners of racing teams in today's Indianapolis 500, when one of the drivers for Dempsey's team spun around and crashed into the wall on turn four. Tomas Scheckter was in the top five when the wreck happened. Dempsey is co-owner of Vision Racing, along with Tony George, owner of the Indianapolis 500 track. Fortunately, Vision Racing has two drivers on the track today and the second is Ed Carpenter.

David Letterman, who is from Indiana and got his start in television as a weatherman at an Indianapolis station, has been on the Indy 500 racing circuit for years. He co-owns Rahal Letterman Racing with former Indy 500 winning racer Bobby Rahal. Currently, his highest-profile racer is young spitfire Danica Patrick, who started the race in the 10th position. They also have Buddy Rice and Townsend Bell, who started in 14th and 15th.

[Thanks for the tip, Doc!]

By "spitfire," you mean "bitch," right?

The 3rd Rahal-Letterman driver is Jeff Simmons who took over the #17 from the late Paul Dana and not Townsend Bell.

That was a great finish! I was rooting for Marco Andretti as soon as he passed his dad but I loved the last-second win for Hornish. What a great race!

Yes, Buddy Rice is a former winner. Unfortunately, he was taken out of this years race through no fault of his own. And Anna, I'm just a little jealous that you and Jason got to see the 500 live. That's very cool. While the split has tarnished the Indy star a bit over the last few years, it is still a very special race.

And how about that finish? That was exciting!

Didn't Buddy Rice win Indy a couple of years ago? Oh, and I think Paul Dana, who died earlier this year, was another Rahal-Letterman driver.

Color me impressed with your Indy knowledge, Anna.

Two stars for you, Doc! One for the tip and one because I happen to have a soft spot for the Indy 500. Jason and I got to sit on Turn One at the Indy 500 race in 2000!

I like that you refer to Danica Patrick as a 'spitfire'. :D Her progress through the various levels of racing is an interesting story and I am really curious to see what happens later this year when Rahal/Letterman get her the new chassis.
