Barbara Walters wants more money

by Bob Sassone, posted May 29th 2006 4:18PM
Barbara WaltersDon't we all?

Specifically, the View host wants more than the $6 million dollars that she was going to get from Miramax Books to pen her autobiography. She wants to get the same amount of money that other high-profile authors got, including Bill Clinton and Alan Greenspan, who got in the $8 to $12 million range.

Obviously, I don't pretend to know all of the details, but how much money does a person need for one project, especially when they make millions in their day job?

Personally, I think Barbara Walters should be FIRED from the View. I am in my 50's and have watched the View for years. The first blow was the loss of Meredith Vieira. Then Star was fired. Now Barbara has hired the obnoxious Rosie O'Donnell to replace Meredith. Barbara is not a good moderator for the View and I suspect her writing (without help) won't be much better. Sorry about the rant...but I have taken the View off my Season Pass on TIVO, and it won't be watched anymore in my house. Maybe a petition drive such as "Time for Barbara Walters to Retire" might be a good move.

My comment is 155 and I failed to say... I wonder if every wealthy American gave 50,000 to each married family, couple, single parent.............NOT just married couples.

I wonder if she shares (Barbara Walters)? I wonder about taking it with her when she goes? I guess everyone wants more and more no matter what they have. No not everyone, but how rich is rich?
Does she; Barbara Walters clean her own bathtub, toilet, mow her yard, bathe her dog, cook her own food all the time, not able to pay her bills or buy pretty things, how about buying a new vehicle or paying for gasoline, electric, property taxes, or wondering about retirement, how about having a job at all when your in your mid to late 60's and 70's, how about having to have a job in your 70's to make it?
I wonder if people like Paul McCartney worth Billions, (except he's British and his new wife of 4 years & now baby, is taking him to the cleaners, he should have listened to his children from his life long wife who died of cancer) and I wonder about all America's wealthy, I wonder if they gave 50,000 to each adult married family if they would hurt at all? I wonder how much that would help? I wonder if that is even possible? I guess I wonder a lot?
Just wondering here since Barbara Walters wants more. I guess she puts herself on the same level as an X-President of the USA. I don't know? Do you? Maybe someone would want to pen my autobiography? I think it be a bit more interesting, perhaps not as exciting, but I think much more could relate and say, "Now there's a woman I can relate too, don't I feel better about myself now. Hoo Rah for her and all like us." haha Perhaps my daughter will write her Mother's autobiography. How about it daughter?
Let's get started........................

To Lloyd:

I note that you are quick to pick out that the "median" income is about $43K annually in the US. Your comment is that half make MORE and half make LESS. Wow, then that must mean the "other" half makes that $43K or more. More people than you think make less than that. As a 59 year old white woman I am about to starve on MINIMUM wage. Why? Because no one will hire me with anything less than a 4 year degree. And then, who will hire someone my age?

If you are young and have a parentally subsidized education, and have that degree (that they usually don't know what to do with), with all the youthful charisma, then you can get a job paying that "median" wage pretty easily. I chose to return to school (using grants, and oh, guess what? STUDENT LOANS, which still don't provide enough for you to LIVE on while going to school) to try and enhance my chances of getting a job with a "median" wage. I will be lucky if I can get something that will allow me to eat and live AND pay back those student loans, along with the interest that PRES BUSH is trying to get raised to the premium level. So much for that "break" for students. I once had my own business, but have a past husband who was "intimidated" by the fact that I could and did make money that he had no jurisdiction over, and he destroyed it, along with full steam efforts to include me in it. Since that time, I have not been able to compete in the job market with those who are much younger, and have parents to pay their bills. I gave my most productive years to a circumstance that rewarded me by destroying the very thing that most who work are carried along by, youth and looks.

I suppose that being BABA WAWA would be better, but there is only room for one of those. I agree "those people" 'up there' make huge amounts of money that I can only begin to imagine how they spend it. How high can your electric bill be before you are in obscenity? How big does your home HAVE to be, for one or two people and a dog or two? I for one, would be glad to have the money that one of those 'icons' make for just a few months...and it would likely carry me for years. I am not the only one in the circumstances I find my self in, I am very sure. Details may change, but the bottom line is the same. I worked all my life, put up with a nut head husband, who wanted to destroy me for having an independent mind...and then when I am no longer YOUNG, I am facing depravation and dehousing - IMMINENTLY. Once someone maliciously takes you down financially, and you are just an 'average' person (female to boot!), it takes years, if ever, to regain any sort of financial autonomy, without lots of help from some benevolant source. There are none of those where I am located, believe me. No jobs to speak of, no help that is forthcoming, and all anyone can say is, "I sure wish you luck..." Oprah gave CARS to every member in her audience when she opened a current season, I do recall. I cried, because I had just had my old car to die. Since those are all grandstand stunts to increase ratings and popularity, I am reasonably sure that the money didn't really come out of her pocket, it was written off as an operating expense for the show, or something...regardless, I wait and pray for something wonderful to happen to me, while I work at a minimum wage job and try to go to school. I may have done it like a breeze 40 years ago, but these days, rest is a commodity that I cannot do without. It is not a luxury, it is a mandate, or I will drop of exhaustion.

So, I am in AWE of the the MANY who are making that median, or over. How do you do it? I can't find any jobs that list for that kind of salary. We are expected to get along on poverty or below circumstances. I see many who are not worth, and/or do not really EARN what they receive...and I see many who are struggling in real terms who cannot get help or notice from all those who have alot of fat rings, around their mouths as well as their middles. It never seems to really "trickle down", they SUCK IT UP! If anything but the trash and cast offs really drifted down, there would be less desperation for those who are really trying to make it. Gotta stop here.

You need to get rid of the entire, "View Group." They are out dated. Star thinks she is a star. Has a sarcastic attitude & no class. Barbara needs to sit down & retire. It's over Barbara! Joy can do night clubs. Elizabeth is lucky she made it this far. Tired of each & everyone interrupting each other. Suggestion: Bill clean up the View & start fresh. Can't believe you would consider paying them...how many millions? Be smart & replace all of them.
The best of the group is gone....she has class.

Somebody up there or along here favored you Barbara and I could not appreciate you. In fact I detested your work! Now, you have it and you always have something real to say which touches all sides. In other words, I never appreciated you until now, that you've mellowed. BUT, you can't take tangible things with you; Mostly, only memories of your excellence and of your great generation will remain. To Whom do you want to give or leave all that gelt?
that surplus gelt?

I have to say that I respect where she has been and what she has accomplished, but all the people who "entertain" are paid way to much. We as a society, have chosen to allow this. Just like we allow our children to attend schools with classses of 1200 where they are treated like prisoners, but they are supposed to learn how to think for themselves. How many ways can we undermine what this country really is... or was?

As a female in upper management at a fortune 500 company, there is no way anyone can tell me there are not prejudices still going on every day! If Barbara wants to ask for more, that is up to her, regardless of what they paid other "authors".

As for Rosie on the View, I am watching this summer as my final goodbye, to a once very thought provoking show. (Especeially since the right is now represented in Elizabeth.) Rosie is so old news, and over, why not just put Rosanne Barr on instead? If Rosie weren't gay, why would anyone watch antyhing she does?

Invest in the lives that you touch everyday, the rest is just "entertainment!"

Barbara Walters is an idiot and a has been. She is as self important as the rest of them - try working for a living - or at least take speech lessons. Her interviews are horrible, not newsworthy and all she does is gush over the so called stars. She does not deserve a dime - just retire and go away.
