The Tick is coming to DVD, but not the full season

by Adam Finley, posted May 30th 2006 4:09PM
the tickI've been trying to follow along with TVShowsOnDVD's coverage of the upcoming release of The Tick animated series on DVD. Well, the DVD is coming out on August 29, but with only twelve of the original thirteen episodes from the first season. Why the missing episode? Well, as it turns out a band of leprechauns stole the only copy of that episode and sent it through a wormhole in time and space where it ... okay, I have no idea. Actually, no one really knows at this point, at least no one who's talking, though TVShowsOnDVD mentions "legal issues." Buying the DVD in August may be a bit like getting your sundae without the cherry on top, but heck, I'll take some Tick over no Tick any day. The question, however, is do I buy the set when it comes out, or wait and see if this lost episode eventually makes it into a future release?

"The Tick, Arthur, American Maid, Sewer Urchin, Die Fledermaus Battle The Idea Men, The Breadmaster, El Seed, The Uncommon Cold and more"
Note no mention of Chairface Chippendale, who was one of the more distinctive villains. Was there an issue between The Tick and Chippendales?

Then again, no mention of Dinosaur Neil, Mr. Mental or others, either, who were equally distinctive. Many times series get held up because of music rights. Was there an episode that used unoriginal music? Where they sang Happy Birthday, maybe?

Ah....milk! The silver spoon award! How I've missed these. My favorite is El Seed because I teach Spanish and I just howl over the puns.

Glad that this release is coming! It's way overdue.

Geez. I think Akbar may be onto something there. Most half-hour shows on DVD have 4 or 6 episodes per disc, and either way they'd prefer to do 12 episodes than 13.

I've been watching it on ToonDisney, and one of my favorite episodes was on, "The Tick vs. Science" where there's the mind-switching machine.

"Tick, I can taste your back!"

"He weeps for he has but one small tongue with which to taste an entire world."

As long as it has "The Tick vs. the Common Cold," I'm buying. Thrakerzog is the best roommate ever.

I have a great theory on this whole 12/13 episode thing.

Look at it this way. Season 1 of the show was 13 episodes. Same as Season 2. Season 3 was only 10 episodes.

Here is how I forsee them releasing the dvds:
Set 1- 12 episodes
Set 2- 12 episodes
Set 3- 12 episodes

Makes sense from the distributors pov dont it?
