And now . . . your past season's deceased

by Richard Keller, posted May 31st 2006 8:11AM

The dearly departed of last seasonOn the one hand, painstakingly compiling a list of those television characters who perished during the 2005-06 season shows that America is still the home of ingenuity and hard work. On the other hand, it also shows that we watch waaayyy too much television and should really be using that ingenuity and work ethic to develop alternate fuels and build cities under the sea.

What would the end of a television season be without a list of the dearly departed (Well, it would just be the end of a season. But that's besides the point)? Thanks to the wonderful Internet, we now have such a list, and it looks like the body count was pretty high this past year. Leading the pack with ten dead was 24, with Alias slightly behind at seven. In a tie with six dead each were Prison Break and, surprisingly, Veronica Mars. The Sopranos, who you'd think would have been swimming in dead bodies, only had five deaths in the season-to-date.

The complete list, including deaths in shows such as Scrubs, CSI: NY, and The Shield (poor Lem) can be found at MagnetMediaFed. The list creators welcome any additional deaths that they missed. Perhaps you should add the death of Joey Tribbiani from Joey . . . no, wait, that was just the death of Matt LeBlanc's career. Never mind.

Let's not forget the hundreds killed on 24 each week. President Palmer; Michelle and Tony; Sean Astin's character and his family; Edgar (was that really necessary?); the aide to the president who orchestrated the whole scam; numerous CTU agents and terrortist; Jack's former boss Anderson (that was kinda cold giving him the gun with no clip and then shooting him in cold blood); the poor bank manager who got caught in the crossfire. . . you can't really keep up with all of them, they're legion.

Ok, no one has mentioned Denny from Grey's Anatomy! How sad that Izzy just laid there with him after he was gone. I honestly thought they were going to let that lady from the car accident go and let Denny live! How sad!!!! :(

In Smallville's 100th episode Reckoning, Jonathan Kent, father to Clark Kent and husband of Martha Kent died of a heart attack on 1-26-2006. It was so sad to watch on the WB.

In Law and Order...Annie Parisse who played Alexandra Borgia was killed in the season finale as she investigated a murder case. She was beaten and gagged and left to die in the trunk of a car.

john spencer died in real life, thats why his character was killed off on the west wing...seems like a bit of a smart-ass comment made about it on the 'list' though, and i personally find it a bit distasteful
