It's official: Mission: Impossible coming to DVD on September 12

Greg MorrisThe first season of Mission: Impossible will be released on September 12, and here is the artwork for the box. Pretty damn cool.

Though what's with the slogan "Nothing smolders like the original"? What, is this a commercial for a barbecue sauce? That's really kinda lame. Besides, I really liked the first Cruise movie (#2 was a disappointment; haven't seen #3 yet).

A lot of people aren't aware that Peter Graves wasn't in the first season of the show. The head of the IMF team was Dan Briggs, played by Steven Hill (who you might know as Adam Schiff on Law and Order). When the show came back in the second season, I don't think there was any explanation as to why Briggs was gone (if anyone knows different, leave a comment with the info).

According to Patrick J. White's "The Complete Mission: Impossible Dossier," Steven Hill was always somewhat difficult on set, but it was his behaviour during the shooting of "Action!" (when he threw a fit over a STAIRCASE, of all things) that doomed him on the show.

.....and, there was no explanation on the show either.
Graves just became the leader and Briggs's character was never mentioned again.

At the time, at least, we were told that Hill left over conflicts with his religion (he was Orthodox Jew and wouldn't work the Sabbath).
