Ricky Gervais bringing back The Office?

by Bob Sassone, posted Jun 1st 2006 4:00PM
Ricky GervaisThat's what the British newspaper The Daily Star is reporting. It says that since the American version of the show has proven to be popular and critically acclaimed, Gervais is going to bring the British version of the show back for more episodes.

I don't know though. I mean, I can picture maybe coming back for a one-shot episode or movie, but Gervais is a producer on the American version too, isn't he? He's already said he wouldn't do it again, so it would seem odd that he would do it. Nothing official on Gervais' site yet.

I really hope this doesn't happen. The Office should be left alone, the way it ended was perfect. I wouldn't mind seeing new episodes of Extras though, if anything he should continue that.

Steve Carell is the greatest comic actor to appear on tv for as long as i can remember. What a talent. I have come to enjoy the american version more too. Every time i watch a repeat i see more of the subtle nuances of the actors and laugh just as hard as i did on the first viewing.

US Office cannot surpass the UK Office. It has increased its funniness and made its own niche, but the UK Office is the greatest and will probably always be for me.

This is one of the few times that I would say DON'T BRING IT BACK.

The British Office was so good and perfect that I want them to just leave it alone. Let these episodes stand alone as the masterpieces that they are.

Thanks for the episodes Ricky, but leave them in the past.

I gotta admit, I didn't see the British version but all I know is that 'The Office' is by far THE BEST and THE FUNNIEST show I've ever seen on TV. From the acting, to the writing-PERFECTION. I laugh so hard I cry just seeing Dwight. I sent 3 emails to NBC.com requesting a Dwight Bobblehead and here they come! To be fair, I suppose I should watch the British version to compare but leave well enough alone! God, I wish I could work in an office like that! They even pronounce 'Scranton' the way it's pronounced here in my part of PA-without the 't'. Perfection

How can any 'version' of The Office surpass the original. Gervais was at his peek when writing it and the British show proved it, it was perfection! Even though I would love to see another series I agree that the ending was brilliant and finished the show off well. I'm not as amazed by 'Extras' as I thought I would be, but hopefully Ricky has got some fab ideas up his sleeves and is going to WOW us all again.

I refuse to believe this. Refuse, refuse, refuse. As much as I loved the UK version, the way they wrapped it up was beautiful. And I've always respected the decision to stop the show before it got tired.

My guess is that someone heard that Gervais/Merchant will be writing for the US "Office" (their first ep will air next season) and mistook it for them putting the UK version back in production...besides they already have a success with their next series "Extras".

I like this idea. If the overrated Absolutely Fabulous can come back every few years, then by all means let's see some more Office.

And maybe we'll finally get some more Red Dwarf.

GB, the US office has HARDLY surpassed the influence OR talent of the British show. I like it well enough, but to say it even comes close is ridiculous.

I do agree with you on the simpsons episode, though - it just fell flat and was disappointing for what I would have expected from Gervais.
