The Sopranos: Kaisha (Finale)

The Sopranos: Kaisha
(S06E12) After a week's layoff that felt like forever (we should be used to that by now with this show, frankly), we're roped right back in to what the boys from Jersey were up to. Julianna Margulies' character has made her way back into the show, in a way that I'd heard on the down low was going to happen, and she turns out to be just the troubling influence that one of the main guys didn't need. Carmela appears dead set on finding out what happened to Adrianna, something that Tony is more than interested in halting from happening.

Going in to this week's season finale, I was curious as to if we'd be left with a serious cliffhanger, or brought into a false sense of security. Unless I missed something, the latter seems to be the case. Christopher seems to be having cold feet about his marriage and impending new addition to the family, and is taking out his frustrations elsewhere. Phil and the New York crew appear to be plotting something very, very bad for the Jersey crew. And most importantly, of course, AJ seems to have made a new friend at the construction site. But like they say, "at least she's Catholic."

So, were you at all surprised to see Christopher getting it on with the woman that Tony wishes he was banging? I most certainly wasn't, after hearing that spoiler a few weeks back. What I was surprised about was that not only did Tony refrain from kicking Christopher's ass over it, but that Christopher actually owned up to doing it. Hope he remembered to bring his wife home a quattro formaggi. Oh, come on. You know he forgot.

I loved how Tony managed to deflect Carmela's attention - hopefully - from searching out Adrianna's killer by making Sil lean harder on the building inspector, allowing her to do construction on her spec house. Wonder if that'll stick, considering the business card she pulled out of her bag and onto her end table. Tony also provided for some comic relief when meeting with Dr. Melfi, especially when he was seemingly complaining about the "type" of women that he always ends up wanting to get with. She asks him "what he thinks it means," and I so thought he was going to make a snide remark about wanting to have sex with his mother, but we missed out on that.

Now, I don't know about you all, but I most certainly look at the New York crew, and except for The Hairstyle, they're looking pretty "dead" already. I mean, John's in prison and out of it, Phil's now had a bad heart attack, and the guys who remain look like they could all be offed with a twist of Tony's wrist. When Tony had his "little chat" with Phil in the hospital, I honestly wondered whether Phil was really crying because he was taking Tony seriously, or that he was just so miserable that he couldn't do anything after trying to curse out his fellow boss that he had to let it out somehow. What I do know is that if that group of semi-loose cannons decides they want to cause some trouble across the Hudson, they might just do it.

Towards the end, it appeared that things would end ever so simply as Christmas occurred and the family got together at the Soprano home. Heck, even Uncle Junior got a visit from Bobby in the home, and it was funny to see him receive an envelope, meant for Bobby's family, and then give it to an orderly. Oddly quiet and simple was this closing, so much so that either David Chase and crew wanted us to think that things were calming down in the Newark area, or to make the final eight episodes that much more effective. And really, who saw Agent Harris as a legit enough guy to help out Tony, telling him that the boys in Brooklyn had it in for someone in Jersey, and there's no way that Tony would let that happen. So either Harris *wants* to get things rolling for his fellow federal agents, or he was just being polite because of the Christmas season. Oh, come on, that's never happening.

Now we have more than half a year to take our guesses on what's going to happen next. Some have said they think Junior will be offed, I almost wouldn't be surprised if both of the crews end up wasted, more or less. Will Adrianna's killer be unearthed? Is Meadow's move out to California the beginning of the unraveling of Tony's actual family? Anyone want to take bets on who actually lives through this entire series? And finally, do we want a happy ending or a crazy ending, once it's all said and done?

So disappointed as well with the readers of this but not surprised. Season 5 won an emmy you idiots and this season, so far has been FANTASTIC! And i guarantee the 2nd half will DESTROY the first. Episodes like Members Only, Mayham, Johnny Cakes and The Ride were some of my FAV ever. You people really need to go back and watch some old episodes. This is the best the show has ever been and to say it's going out on top is an undrstatement.Just reading this makes me laugh. People wanting Tony to Kill Carm for finding out about Adrianna. Yeah, that would be totally unrealistic. Why do you even watch if you're into that type of crap. Go watch Grey's Anatomy or House or dance with the freaking stars while your're at it. They'll give you the stripped down unrealistic, mindless tv that you seek.

As one of The Sopranos original and biggest fans I have to say this season (and the last) were huge disappointments. I have always admired Chase and co. for raising the bar on what could have been just another mob drama and creating what I saw as a true work of art. Unfortunately I have come to the sad conclusion that this show has been resting on it's laurels for some time now. Time and again I have found myself looking to to ANY point or plotline that provided what I hoped was a sign that the show was back on track. But after watching these last two seasons I have come to accept the fact that this show has simply run out of steam and I am simply holding out hope based on it's past glory. In regard to both plot and character development there is absolutely no continuity anymore. Plot lines are either dropped or completely diffused, and characters do about faces with no explantion whatsoever. This season was the worst with entire episodes acting as showcases for minor characters while allowing major characters to be reduced to mere walk-ons. In the past Chase and his writers would have needed only a few episodes to set up plotlines-but an entire season?
I think that most times the truth lies with the simplest explanation. So keeping in mind that David Chase never planned on doing the show this long, I believe the T.V critic who opined that Chase & Co. may have simply run out of ideas hit it right on the head.

I don't need whackings, but give me something. Make my jaw drop just once. For all those saying read between the lines. Enlighten us mere mortals. What is that we're not seeing?

The sopranos was once a great show, but now it is terrible! I keep watching to see if there is going to be a pay off and it is does not happen. I hate when people say that it is not the regular "whack em" show because that is what most people watch the show for. If we wanted to have cerbral shows we would watch 6 feet under or something! I personally think that if the Shield was on HBO it would definately get more buzz than the Sopranos. Their writers have the violence and the drama!

This was a dissapointing episode. They seem to drag things out a lot. Don't get me wrong, this is one of my favorite all time shows, but we need to speed things up a bit. There are only 8 more episodes for this show, and (if you've been watching it from season 1) there are a lot of loose ends that need to be tied up. They are making some connection to past episodes, like Paulie waking up at 3:00 to call his doctor to see if he got the results from his biopsy, which was in reference to the second season when Christopher got shot, died & came back to tell Paulie & Tony that they would get whacked at 3:00.

If you remember back to the second season, when all that controversy with the Italian Americans in New York, petitioned for the cast not to march in the Italian American Parade. Maybe it was that controversy that redirected the show, because it has not been the same since.

And Karen, that was Svetlana. I watched the episode again for that particular reason & it is definately her, although her name does not appear in the credits.
There must be some significance to her reappearing, maybe the russians are going to make a comeback?

I hope the last 8 episodes of the series are remeniscent of the action & drama that was writte in the first 2 seasons.

I'm sure that I'm not the only one out there that would love to see things go "Down in a blaze of glory"!

A couple of thoughts, ... carmella saw the beakon in her dream (is SHE next?)maybe something involving angie( the jealousy Carm feels has been pointed out a few times)..AJ seems to be becoming what Tony said he DIDN'T want (his son is becoming HIM)...Julianna has GOT TO BE an agent, sometimes being a junkie IS part of their job. She came on too hard to BOTH christopher and Tony for her to be some fling. Tony may very well wack her just to prove to chrissy whom the BOSS is, wouldn't be the first time. (And, causing chrissy to flip, perhaps?) And, a question, finally, about Tony. He forgave uncle junior for intetionally ordering a hit on him, along with his mother, so why can he not forgive a feeble, senile old man for what happened?

This episode was dedicated to the late John Patterson, who had directed all the previous season finales.

People-People-People,
Why so down on the latest season of Sopranos? Have we, as mob-lovin' loyalists, grown to expect too much?
Allow me to recap some classic Kaisha finale moments:
Phil Leotardo & his goomar's near-death experience? Fat Dom's head in the freezer? Julianna Margulies' character smoking smack & F***ing the big guy's nephew?
AJ getting laid? Agent Harris offers Tony a "tip" about the NY gang? Uncle Junior handing-off the envelope of dough to the oderly? WOW, that was good enough for me. To all the armchair critics, I say, lighten up already.

even the song moonlight mile at the end by the rollingstones was a neat ending song..

"i am sleeping under strange strange skies..."

"yeah i'm coming home....but i'm just about about a moonlight mile down the road""

is it just me ? i thought the whole package this season was quite brilliant

Almost home....
