The Shield's sixth season is a go

The ShieldAccording to this morning's Ausiello Report, "reliable sources" have confirmed that a sixth season of The Shield has been green-lit. It seems that show creator Shawn Ryan is confident that there's still plenty more story to tell. Of course, at this rate, a sixth season probably won't be seen until sometime in late 2007 or 2008.

The last ten episodes of season five are currently being filmed and won't air until early 2007, which gives FX time to finish out the third season of Rescue Me and the fourth season of Nip/Tuck. No matter how you look at this though, it's good news. The Shield is easily one of the top five shows on TV (in my book anyway) and it's good to know that it'll be around for a little while longer.

Shane blows chunks, but you could see it coming as soon as they had the grenade scenes earlier. Shane's a weasel who only looks out for number 1 and Vic should have already reined in his wild dog and put a bullet in him.

Last season's The Shield was second only to Season 1 in my book, and arguably had the best guest actor in Forrest Whittaker, who was riveting.

My only laments about the next two seasons is an increasingly annoying Shane (who *used* to be my favorite character), and a dead Lem - who may just be my favorite fictional character who has died (except maybe the pig in charlottes web - seriously that hurt).

That's disappointing, the train's off the rails already, and the plot needs a serious conclusion.Of course I'll be watching, but come on, there's not much they can do to stay ahead of trouble for another 23 episodes.

You're exactly right Fred, if Shawn Ryan has been trying to sell another season of The Shield, all we know for sure is that we aren't going to be satisfied with the conclusion to the next five episodes. Although I really like The Shield, I was anticipating a series finale that concluded things with some reality (and considering Vic's behavior, that can only really end with him dead or in prison(which means dead, really)).

Futon Critic reported that that last 10 eps of season 5 is actually season 6. And really all FX ordered was a 13 episode season 7.

On the one hand, more of The Shield is a good thing. On the other hand, I was sort of looking forward to this season bringing things to a nice (albeit, I'm sure, not tidy) conclusion.
