Dog Bites Man: Assignment: Bodybuilders
(S01E01)
Kevin Beekin (interviewing a bodybuilder at Gold's Gym): Statistics have shown that high percentage of bodybuilders are bisexual.
Bodybuilder: I've heard that, yeah.
Beekin: Most bodybuilders are bisexual, which you just agreed to. What do you spend most of your time doing?
Bodybuilder: First of all, I didn't agree that most bodybuilders are bisexual. I've heard through the grapevine, and the world --
Beekin: Is the "Grapevine" the name of a gay bar?
Comedy Central's new improv series, Dog Bites Man, premiered last night. While it's comparable to Reno 911! in it's use of improv, there is one significant difference. Rather than having comedians riff off one another, the "KHBX news team" actually goes out among regular people, leading to some hilarious moments like the one above.
Before they head to Los Angeles to cover the Ironman Bodybuilding Competition, the team must sit through sexual harassment training, where director Alan (Zach Galafianakis) innocently asks if he can refer to his testicles as "Siegfried and Roy." This spurs a discussion about other possible names, such as "Alvin and the Chipmunks," and which part of his anatomy each one would represent. Kevin (Matt Walsh), the reporter , suggests Dave should have some representation in their, as well.
We also find out right away that Kevin and new producer Tillie (Andrea Savage) once had an affair, but have since grown bitter toward one another. While at the bodybuilding competition they try to make one another jealous. Tillie flirts with the bodybuilders while Kevin tries to belittle them on camera. In one scene, they ask a bodybuilder to lift weights in the background while they shoot a segment. Kevin keeps screwing up on purpose until the bodybuilder asks for lighter weights so he can keep going. Kevin then proceeds to tell the camera that the man behind him can't lift that much weight and isn't all that impressive.
Throughout the episode, Kevin keeps insisting to Tillie he has all kinds of strippers and other hot chicks at his disposal as a means to make her envious. This isn't true of course, but he enlists intern Marty (A.D. Miles) to help him simulate the sounds of sexual intercourse in his hotel room, which is right next to Tillie's. While Kevin bangs the headboard against the wall, Marty moans like a woman. Tillie walks in and catches them, which is funny enough, but then Marty, very seriously, asks Kevin, "Do you wanna do it again?"
A pretty good start for what's probably going to be another favorite among the Upright Citizens Brigade and Reno 911! set. The episode will air again this evening in case you missed it.
