Entourage: Aquamom (season premiere)

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Jun 12th 2006 7:59AM

Entourage; HBO

(S03E01) Wow, I missed this show. This was far and away the best twenty-five minutes I spent this week. Why you ask?

Lloyd (upon realizing that James Woods hasn't been to Ari's new office): Oh, you haven't been up here yet?

James Woods: No, he's been hiding this place like Anne Frank.

Lines like that are why.

I'm guessing it's been about a year since we last saw Vince and his boys. Aquaman is in the can and it premieres that night. Someone made the idiotic decision of giving Drama and Turtle a bunch of VIP tickets to hand out but they blow through them in record time. That's where James Woods comes in but we'll get to that.

Ari's new agency is up and running. He has nine people working for him now but he hates it because it's in West Hollywood. That and the elevator doesn't work. Oh, and he's bouncing checks so Mrs. Ari isn't too pleased with him either.

Vince and E finally come to see Ari and the topic of who Vince should take to the premiere came up. He settled on his mother, the Aquamom. Of course, she hates Hollywood so the only way to get her out there is if Turtle and Eric's mothers come too. So now they need extra tix and Lloyd gives Turtle two that were supposed to go to James Woods. Bad Idea. I'm terrified of James Woods. When he comes to get the tix back, Drama slipped Woods an empty envelope. I would never do that to James Woods. Why? I already told you why.

But everything goes off without a hitch and they all attend the premiere. Ari and the wife even make up after she jumps on the "Vince is gonna be HUGE" bandwagon.

Other things I enjoyed:

  • Turtle and his "Welcome to New York Johnny" Yankees tee-shirt. Stupid Damon...
  • Amanda Righetti?!? Man, she dropped fast. From a significant recurring role on The OC, to starring in Reunion, to a five second blip as a jewelry store clerk in Entourage. Ouch.
  • James Cameron. I love that he was willing to make multiple cameos in this show.
  • Ari basically telling Drama that he could care less about him by saying that Drama deserves an agent who's invested in him.
  • Top-Tall: A Johnny Drama original to describe disproportionately shaped girls who have torsos longer than their legs.

See, I'm all smiles now. And next week, Ari gets thrown in a pool. I don't know why, but I can't wait to find out.

This review was choppy and missed the point of the episode. Do they even mention the importance of the mothers all going the the premiere

Nice show to enjoy after deadwood. The new Louie show started slow but i will give it time. HBO are gods of TV.

In response to comment #11, all the circumstantial evidence points to Ari being a coke addict. Watch how often he sniffles and toches his nose, the sudden rages...

Sloan was in this episode. She's with the gang when they exit the limo at the premiere. Blink and you'll miss it.

As for Mandy Moore, I bet she'll be in the next episode because I assume it will continue with the events at the premiere. I could be wrong but I don't think that James Woods ever got those tickets so I bet there's some blowback on that.

That said, I can't wait for next week either.

Yep. THE best 25 minutes of TV. Period.

So much to say, but the problem I have is why does Ari office in WeHo? I mean the rent is cheaper, but not much. Especially for 1,400 SQFT. I'm sure it is there to make us understand that it ain't the old days anymore for Ari.

Can't wait for next week and the week after that and the week after that.

This is the best show on TV. I don't like some of the loose ends so far, however.

1. Where was Sloan? She should be in every episode ;-)

2. Where was Mandy Moore? Why was she not at the premiere?

3. I don't get how Ari could be out of money at this stage. Even if he was bad with money (and you typically aren't if you're a big time agent as $$ is your job), he still could tap funds and home equity, etc.

That being said super first episode to start the new year.

For comment #5, Ari said that he wanted Lloyd to make it clean enough "to get trained on."

Thought that the show lacked the humor of earlier shows.

Somewhat unrelated, but I think I was the only one enjoying the fact that Jeremy Piven was the voice of Harv, Lighting McQueen's agent in Pixar's Cars. You never see Harv as he's only on the phone in the movie, but it was great hearing Piven play a G-Rated Ari.
