My rock smashes your scissors for $50,000

by Richard Keller, posted Jun 14th 2006 11:19AM

Rock Paper ScissorsBack in January the extremely intelligent Adam Finley reported on a slew of new shows that were being picked up by the Arts and Entertainment network, known to all of us in sector 7G as A&E. One of these new shows was coverage of the fifty thousand dollar Rock Paper Scissors tournament. Immediately after this post the world's population, as one united force, waited in tense anticipation for this masterpiece of entertainment would appear.

Well, it's here. A&E is currently airing the Rock Paper Scissors Championship, with the next broadcast on June 17th. The show, which is hosted by Dave Attel, will highlight the national finals in Las Vegas. It will also feature a history of the game and some strategy on how you, the TV Squad reader, can become a better Rock Paper Scissors player.

Just remember, paper covers rock. Or, is it rock smashes paper? Or, can you smash the rock with a pair of scissors. Well, I guess I'll have to watch to find out, won't I?

All the excitement of an NBA regular season game. I wonder how soon before the RPS league will start up.

I remember seeing a Rock-Paper-Scissors thing on tv a few months ago. It was on the tv at T.G.I.F. restaurant and I was with some friends. We all watched in amazement that an RPS tournament existed and that it was televised. It was awesome! As I recall it was given the full ESPN treatment with player profiles, rules and strategies. Dave Attel is a great choice for host.

You may want to avoid using World RPS Society promotional material when promoting USARPS events.

That's like putting a Coke logo up on an article about Pepsi.

a_Bug,

Actually it was a quote from the Simpsons. Bart and Lisa were preparing to play Rock Paper Scissors and Bart says that in his head. I couldn't resist.

Paper beats Rock unless you take your Rock and beat the crap out of the person with the Paper.

Phil Gordon ran something like this at the 2005 World Series of Poker to raise money for his charity "Put a Bad Beat on Cancer". People seemed to have a lot of fun with it.

superbagman;

I assume you're kidding (like the episode of That '70s Show where Fez doesn't get the concept of P, R & S). ..

Because we all know that Paper beats Rock.

Personally i added a few of my own into the PR&S troika. Stick your thumb up (like you're giving the "OK" signal). Its a grenade. Scissors cuts the wick of the grenade (loose to scissors), Rock gets blown up (win over Rock), and Paper gets burned by wick (Win over Paper). Its just something silly i made up when i was like 12 or something :).
