Winnie Cooper -- mystery solver
If you were a fan of The Wonder Years back in the late 1980's and early 1990's, you probably had a bit of a crush on Danica McKellar, who played Winnie Cooper, the on-again, off-again girlfriend of Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage). And, after the show ended in 1993, you probably thought that she would go on to bigger and better things. Instead, she dashed your hopes by dropping out of the entertainment business for a bit while she completed her degree in mathematics from UCLA. She came back recently in shows such as NCIS, How I Met Your Mother, and, in a recurring role, The West Wing. But, that still wasn't enough. You wanted more Danica.
Your wish may have just come true, courtesy of Lifetime. McKellar is teaming up with the network on a new series that will begin on television and continue on the Internet. Titled Inspector Mom, the made-for-TV movie will star Danica as Maddie Monroe; a mother of two young children (What? Winnie's a mother? No, it can't be true!) who solves mysteries in her spare time. After the movie airs, the adventures of Maddie will continue on the Internet in five webisodes set to premiere in the fall. Each webisode will feature a new case for Monore to solve. After the first batch of shows air a second movie will premiere on Lifetime, followed five more Internet shows.
By the way, McKellar may be the only actress today who has had a mathematical theorem named after her. More on the Chayes-McKellar-Winn theorem on Percolation and Gibbs states multiplicity for ferromagnetic Ashkin-Teller models on Z2 can be found at her website.
