Billie Piper quits Doctor Who

Billie Piper as Rose TylerBBC Entertainment News is reporting that Billie Piper, the actress who plays David Tennant's assistant Rose Tyler in Doctor Who will depart the series at the end of the current run. It's not yet known if her character will die at the end of the series, or simply end her relationship with The Doctor and leave the possibility of a return open.

It's long been rumored that Piper wanted to leave when Christopher Eccleston jumped ship after just one series of the show's recent revival, but thankfully the producers managed to keep her on for one more series.

She'll be sorely missed, both in her role as the Doctor's first real companion who has managed to delve deeper into the soul of the mysterious Timelord than any assistant before her, but also as a fine actress who has helped breathe life back into a near-dead franchise.

Oh, and if you're wondering where my reviews of the recent two-parter here in the U.K. are, they'll be here soon -- there's a World Cup on at the moment, and all of my valuable viewing time is being choked up watching The Beautiful Game.

I'm sad to see Billie leave she was an amazing companion....I'm not sure how good the show is going to be with both her and Chris gone but on the bright side I read somewhere that Captain Jack is returning in the 3rd season

I am soooo going to miss Billie. There won't be much point watching Doctor Who now!!! Why did u have to go???? The new compainion looks wierd and she can't be as good as Billie!! At least David Tennant isn't qitting, but I went on his site and spotted a picture of him in doomsday when Rose has just gone and he's just stood there crying and I felt so sad!

I liked Billie / Rose in the show and I do agree that she seemed to have a better chemistry with Christopher Eccleston, but I don't think she was the worst companion ever.

What I don't understand is some of the people saying "I'll never watch the show again if she leaves". The show IS called "Doctor Who" which in theory means the Doctor is the main focus of the show. If you like the show the way it is, why not at least give it the benefit of the doubt and at least watch the next episode or two after she's gone? How silly does that kind of thinking get? So next you'll stop watching because they change the interior design of the TARDIS?

If you hate the sidekicks leaving that much, I can only imagine how upset you must get when they change doctors. In the show's 28 years of existence, I think we can all agree that change is a large part of Doctor Who.

I cite NYPD Blue as an example. When Caruso left the show, everyone thought it would fail but then Jimmy Smits came in and the show just got better.

I AM THE BIGGEST DOCTOR FAN EVER AND I CRYED WHEN BILLIE LEFT NO ONE CAN REPLACE HER.BUT I THINK FREEMA WILL TRY HER BEST.BUT STILL NO ONE CAN REPLACE HER.AT LEAST DAVID TENNANT IS STILL IN IT!
