Why the hell is Bravo showing The Restaurant again?

Rocco DiSpiritoTo follow up on this post I did over at Slashfood, I just got through watching Celebrity Poker Showdown (the one where David Cross won and gave bananas to the whole audience - you'd have to see it to understand), and right after the show ended, the NBC reality series from a couple of years ago, The Restaurant, came on.

Huh? Why is Bravo showing this again? I thought it was a low-rated embarrassment that the network (and Rocco DiSpirito) would want to put behind them. I know that CNBC was showing the show on a regular basis, but...well, that's CNBC, and they need all the programming they can get. Is Bravo so hard up for programming that they have to show a reality show that not many people cared for in the first place, and show it in the middle of the day to boot?

Weird.

I liked The Restaurant. And I like Rocco. I used to tune in when it was on NBC regularly. I like watching the reruns, even tho I know this business is not going to pan out. I just heard Rocco is getting another shot at TV! Good luck to Rocco, maybe he will bring Mama in on it too!

Isn't Rocco going to be a contestant on the next episode of Celebrity Poker Showdown? That could be part of it, no?

They probably had decent ratings with Top Chef and then just looked at what programming NBC had available that was similar, then used it to fill some scheduling gaps. Doesn't seem like a big mystery to me.

Don't forget, this is the same network that was so overly excited about getting The West Wing that they put it on about 30x per week.

I ate dinner at Rocco's once when the show was on (though between the filming of seasons 1 and 2). The food was ok, but overpriced, even by NYC standards.
