Connie Chung's farewell song is a huge hit -- VIDEO!

by Anna Johns, posted Jun 21st 2006 11:03AM
connie chungWhile Connie Chung's show on MSNBC has tanked, she's a big hit on the internet. In fact, more people have watched this goofy clip on the internet (300,000) than ever watched her show. Over the weekend, Connie dressed up in a strapless gown and sang a song (horribly off-key) to parody the fact that her show has been canceled. To the tune of 'Thanks for the Memories', she sang... "We came to do a show... for very little dough... by little I mean I could make more working on skid row." After watching it, I have the same question that Jon Stewart had: What's the pianist for? I can't wait to see what Joel McHale does with this clip on The Soup.

It's painful to watch, but for the morbidly curious, the video is after the jump.

You can clearly tell it's meant to be tongue-in-cheek and self-deprecating. Her "fall" from the piano, her off-key singing -- it's all obviously deliberate and meant for laughs. But it moves way beyond that into some kind of weird, jaw-dropping horror. A deliberate train wreck is still a train wreck.

Yeah like she would ever be able to be taken seriously again by anyone who has seen just ONE episode of this god-awful show.

After that performance, she will never be able to be taken as a serious journalist ever again.

To go from hosting CBS Nightly News to this is just down right sad.

Someone who knows Connie well explained that Connie has a very dry sense of humor and this was true Connie. That she really did mean to be funny and she does know she can't sing. This was just her way of laughing at the whole situation.

The thing about it is everyone is making fun of it, what can Joel add to it. I bet he brings out the dog out on this one. Connie claims she was not drunk. MSNBC at its finest hehe.

It seems as if the piano player is a standin and the entire song was supposed to be magically created in post.

But my god doesnt she look great in that gown - that woman is 60 years old!
