Late night heaven: Amy and Bonnie

by Joel Keller, posted Jun 22nd 2006 11:54AM
Amy Sedaris and Bonnie HuntBecause of Bob's slavish devotion to her, I knew that Amy Sedaris was going to be on Letterman last night promoting Strangers with Candy. Because of my own little crush on her, I tuned in to see her all-too-short segment (I mean, really, Dave; I know he just won the NBA championship and all, but... Dwayne Wade? Two segments of Amy would have made for better TV. And Dwayne... when you're going on a talk show, wear some long pants, OK, buddy?). Of course Amy was manically funny, as usual, telling stories and throwing out her celebrity "faces" (I especially liked her Streisand). I laughed out loud a number of times.

When her segment was over, I started flipping around. I hit Jimmy Kimmel's show and -- oh, my -- saw one of my other TV crushes... Bonnie Hunt! This was completely unexpected. She was on promoting Cars, and she started launching into stories about how she and her brother laughed at her father's funeral, how her dad would rib her mom, how her mom repairs the toilet, and what it's like to work with Kimmel's brother. All of this seemed unplanned (Bonnie even said "I can't believe I'm talking about this," a couple of times), not the usual "interview-by-numbers" that is set up by the pre-interviewing process. And it was very entertaining.

Oh, did I say that both Bonnie and Amy looked absolutely lovely last night? Wow. Not a bad way to end a pretty stressful day.

There's another Dwayne Wade defender trying to call me a jerk (and less of a man) besides you, Joyce, but he has no idea how to confirm his comment.

But to address both of you: I love sports. And I think Wade is one of the best players the NBA has seen in years. He and LeBron are going to be the next Bird and Magic.

But do I like hearing him do an interview? Not really. Most athletes have little to nothing to say. Sorry, but that's a fact. I'm a big Derek Jeter fan, but he usually gives close to nothing most of the time a reporter asks him a question. He does it on purpose; why get in trouble when you don't have to?

So, in conclusion, I like seeing Dwayne Wade play basketball, but on a talk show, I'd rather see Amy Sedaris and her "Streisand face" (oh, and I don't like Streisand, Mr. Posting Troll Who Can't Confirm His Comment. I like Amy's funny Streisand impression. Give me a freakin' break.).

What a jerk you are! Dwayne Wade was a much better guest than Amy Sedaris. I think she's a flake and completely crazy. You can't even follow her stories or whatever they are.

Dwayne Wade is the best and I'd have preferred he was the whole show.

Let me get this straight- You would rather have two segments of that twit Amy Sedaris than a few minutes of Wade, a guy who just dominated a playoff series more than any one individual since the retirement of MJ? And you're a man? That is so gay.
And if you had the slightest interest in sports, you would have found his remarks about his friendship with Shaq and his feelings about Mark Cuban fascinating.

("I especially liked her Streisand" ????)
