The Daily Show: June 28, 2006

The Daily Show"Ward of the Word": Goodness, the folks on Capitol Hill just won't let go of the phrase "cut-and-run". Can exit strategies really be broken down to just two verbs and a conjunction? It's gone as far as "cut-and-jog". Coming next: cut-and-skip, cut-and-mosey... Set it and forget it?!

Warren Buffett recently donated $31 billion to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It's probably the biggest financial gesture in the history of charity! Senior Philanthropy Correspondent Samantha Bee reported from the American Cancer Society Manor, which was decked out with chandeliers, strippers, and champagne from Buffett's funds. C'mon! It's $31 billion! There's plenty left to go around... But for now, it's time for the charity folk to do a little something for themselves. Note: The new Red Cross Bloodmobiles now operate on hydraulics. Pimpin'.

Two part interview time! The night's guest was Al Gore, promoting his book and documentary, An Inconventient Truth. He and Jon discussed the unexpected success of the film and the climate crisis itself. Gore explained that his message has no political agenda behind it but he still wishes Bush would see the film. He also dropped a Big Daddy reference and a "Stewart-Colbert '08" bumper sticker joke. There's a reason why this interview was unusually long. I think it's worth seeing in full... YouTube has video (Part I, Part II).

Jon/Stephen: Stephen Colbert questioned the very existence of the Al Gore interview. Moment of Zen: Warren Buffett's kids won't be getting those big billions.

This was an episode worthy of an iTunes purchase so that I can cherish it forever. And while I liked "An Inconvenient Truth", I really wish he would have cut those clips from the 2000 election so that it would be easier to accept words like, "no political agenda".

In my fantasy Al Gore will be John McCain's running partner in the 2008 election. A man can dream, can't he?
