The Daily Show: June 29, 2006

The Daily ShowAfter making a brief joke about how he almost fell down during the pre-show warm-up, Jon Stewart touched on a recent buzz story. He said that he was startled when he saw something strange on Scarborough Country... There was some dude with a crazy-looking head. It looked like it was made out of wax! Oh, and the topic of discussion was something like "Is Jon stewart a Danger?". But, seriously, that guy's head was craaaazy!

A quick recap of what's been going on in Congress in the last week: Gay marriage, video games, and the American flag. Well, it's been a tough week for Gary and James, the Massachusetts couple that created the video game "Flag Burning City: Troops Out Now".

"This Week in God": Haha, the audience started cheering before Jon even said the words "This Week in God". I was disappointed that there was no God Machine, though... I love that thing. Anyway, Rob Corddry did a special sports edition of TWiG called "Spirit Center". The Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks were both convinced God was on their side. Kee-eep telling yourself that, Mavericks. Ecuador's football/soccer team called in a Shaman to cleanse their fields of evil spirits. Um, they lost. So much for that. The Passion of the Christ race car has some new competition! The Scientologists have sponsored their own Dianetics car. Now all we need to do is get the Dalai Lama some driving lessons and have some fun! This has been brought to you by Lemon Lime Holy Water ("Is it in thou?!").

"Back in Black": This time around, Lewis Black took on James Inhofe, who chairs the Senate Environment Committee and called the climate crisis a hoax. He also spoke a little on gays in the military... "We can't afford to turn anyone away! We need boots on the ground! And if someof those boots happen to be Prada... FABULOUS!"

The night's guest was Kevin Spacey, one of the stars of Superman Returns. Apparently, Spacey has been living in London for the past three and a half years. He said that he enjoys watching The Daily Show (he called it "the best damn news show in America!") on the CNN International channel. He also talked about how refreshing it is to see news about America from a different perspective. Spacey is also a fan of the way the House of Commons is set up and broadcast... He wants the American government to do the same. My immediate thought was "OMG! Me too!" (my mind functions in Netspeak). People think I'm crazy when I tell them how entertained I am by the House of Commons. Seriously, watch it. It's fantastic.

Jon/Stephen: Aww, no Stephen Colbert preview because the satellite went on vacation early. Sad. Moment of Zen: Don't be a stupid mannequin and play it safe on July 4th.

Hi Folks,

I like your blog. I was in the audience last night (6/29) and posted some photos and observations on mine:

Someone should tell Kevin Spacey that The Daily Show on CNN is just the global edition (highlights) once a week. He needs to watch More 4 for the full version, albeit without the Colbert handovers.
