Video killed the radio star

natasha bedingfieldHas the video ever totally ruined a song for you? It sure has for me. I realized it this afternoon as I quickly slammed the radio button in my car to turn off a song that I hate... all because of the video. The song is called 'These Words (I Love You, I Love You)' by Natasha Bedingfield. I used to see her 'Bimbo Jones remix' video early every morning last winter when I worked out at the gym. It was like a train wreck: it was awful but I couldn't look away. She sang and danced her happy tune with little cartoon stereos that had chubby legs. Weird. And super dumb. I'm not sure whether I would've liked the song anyway, but the video made me hate it. I've embedded it after the jump so you can hate it too.

What video ruined a song for you?

Nevermind ruining it for the listener. How about ruining it for the musician.

One name: Billy Squire.

One video:Rock me tonight.

Bill Clinton and Al Gore ruined Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop" for me when it was chosen as their 1993 campaign song. EVERYtime I hear that song now, I see them (Bill & Al & company) standing on a stage, balloons falling, shaking hands, smiling...Took the 'groove' right out of the song for me. Dang.

It's funny because I am the original MTV generation and while at the beginning they played every video to death, Herbie Hancocks video with all the weird things. Now we don't have a real MTV because all it is is reality shows. So I guess videos really didn't kill the radio star

Britney Spears' "Toxic", and Counting Crows' "Accidentally in Love".
