The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection: Volume 10 out in August

mst3kMystery Science Theater 3000 is, without a doubt, my favorite television series ever. It's also a show that owes some debt to its fans. It premiered on Comedy Central (actually, it debuted when "Comedy Central" was still called "The Comedy Channel") when that network was still drifting unnoticed through the cable landscape. It was fans who recorded every episode and sent them around that helped to spread word of the show and keep it on the air for ten years, which isn't too shabby for a weird little puppet show shot in Minneapolis. While securing rights to all the movies riffed on the show makes it impossible for full seasons to be released, Rhino has been doing a great job puting together "best of" sets of the series, and the tenth volume comes out on August 29. Episodes will include Godzilla vs. Megalon; Swamp Diamonds; The Giant Spider Invaision; and Teenage Strangler. The set will also include songs and outtakes. Information comes from MST3k Info.

It wasn't that Mike took over when the show took a bit of a slump. It was when Frank and Dr. Forrester (pardon my spelling) left. I was never thrilled with the monkey/ape and Perhl. Mike was awesome of the show, and the person (I can't recall who) that took over Crow's character was very funny. Sadly, I could never find the time to watch it when the show changed to the Sci-Fi Channel. All-in-all, I just found out that Joel is from Stevens Point, and that's where I go to college. Pretty fun coincidence.

But I need help with a nerdish question. Help out if you can. I remember watching a short of MST3K's when I was in high school. The short had something to do with how chickens are processed into food. If this, or a similar idea for a short that they've done pops up in your head and you know the answer, please email me at vwrabbitvw@yahoo.com

If I don't respond to the email, then the filter most likely didn't put it in my inbox. I'm having trouble with that lately.

Zaijian,

Tom

MST3K was one of my very favorite shows for a long long time. But am I the only one who thought the show went way downhill when Mike took over? Yea, thought so.
When they finally put the episodes out on VHS I was the first in line. I'll probably pick up this set just to remember and pay tribute to the greatness of this show.

I think it was on Public TV before it was on The Comedy Channel... Back when Joel Hodgson was the host and not Mike...

Ummm you can read more of the truth here...

*******When, in the summer of 1988, Mallon's bosses asked him to find a way to fill a two-hour time slot on Sunday evenings, Mallon thought of Hodgson. He met with Joel over lunch at a Minneapolis-area deli to pick his brain for ideas. Two weeks later, Hodgson returned with a rough outline of a show which involved a human on an orbiting satellite watching bad movies with two robot companions...and the germ of the idea that was to become Mystery Science Theater 3000 was born.*********

The rest of the history is here...

Enjoy...
