Lost: Coming to a theater near you?

lostOur buddies over at Cinematical are all a-buzz over the possibility that the ABC drama, Lost, will culminate with a movie. Executive producer Damon Lindeloff is talking up the idea of bringing the series to a close with a big screen finale. He would like to do five seasons and then a movie, partly to keep the network from making him drag the show on and on for years. It's hard to argue with his reasoning. We've all seen what happens when good shows outstay their welcome (The X-Files, Desperate Housewives - ha!).

With all the complicated storylines and themes, I'd say that's a movie that will confound anyone who hasn't watched the series. And, should it only be for fans of the television show? Movies like The X-Files: Fight the Future and Serenity were dumbed down a bit in order to woo a broader audience. Is that even possible with something like Lost?

Five seasons and then a movie? I thought the original plan was for just four seasons? Hmm.

Hello:

I am a little more than perplexed where this show is headed to. Are they going to permanently remain LOST or will they one day find their way back to civilization? That is what an inquiring mind like me wishes to decipher.

It'd be possible to do a "Lost" movie without getting TOO deep into the mythology. In season 2, the episode that focused on Rose and Bernard was, to the best of my recollection, one of THE most self-contained episodes in the series so far.

A good example on how to do the Lost movie would be Buffy/Angel crossover episodes. If you saw one episode on the other show, then the crossover episode would make a lot more sense. But if you didn't, it still moved along completely fine.

Maybe the movie will finally give us Libby's backstory. Hehe.
