Horrible news involving Project Runway model

by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 13th 2006 2:37PM
Project RunwayOK, here's the usual warning: I'm about to reveal something incredibly spoilerish (and sad) about Project Runway. Don't read any further if you don't want to know what happened and who it happened to! Full details after the jump.

18 year old model Jia Santos became one of the last three models on the show (which just started another season on Bravo). But while filming one of the last episodes, Santos was hit by a bus while riding her bike in New York City. Her agent tells the New York Daily News that "she fractured her skull and her eye socket and was in critical condition for three days. Now she has been in intensive care for a month." The agent also said that the first words she uttered when she woke up were "Am I still on Project Runway?"

The show will have the accident in the last episode and will explain what happened.

I looked at my tape again and both Michael and Robert are not shown selecting a model. Is this because of (a) the injury sustained by Robert's model and (b) the rumor that is floating around that Michael gets ousted from the show because he didn't present his own work in his portfolio? Did anyone else notice this?

I noticed that on the most recent Project Runway show (the Miss Universe dress project) Robert Best is not shown choosing a model, all the other designers are shown choosing theirs. Was that intentional because of this recent injury?

oh my goodness..I'm praying for the girl and her recovery...I can imagine she'd be upset about the show and her career but really her health is the most important thing...God bless!

pappa joe, first of all I do think it's sad when ANYONE is in an accident. My uncle died by getting hit by a car. I had a terrible time in middle school, yet if any of the people who laughed at me got into a terrible accident I would still be sad because I have a heart, something you seem to be lacking.

I can fully believe that she was thinking "oh god, am I still on the show?" There are two expressions that are relevant here:

"Time heals all wounds."
"Once in-a-lifetime opportunity."

She's not dead, so her concern when it comes to her health is just to take care of herself, heal, and wait. But when it comes to her career, who knows if it'll recover from this? I remember going to a convention and hurting my foot the first night, and thinking "crap, I'm going to have to stay home and miss the con!" Some of you might think that's pathetic, but honestly, I can deal with a sprain/break. You go to the doctor, you get treatment, you stay off the foot. But I can't make up the con. And that's the way it is for her - this was her big break, and she doesn't know how she's going to make that up.

And people, don't talk like modeling is easy. You ever wonder why half these girls end up as coke addicts? It's stressful, tiring, and just plain cruel sometimes. Imagine still being able to work but being tossed out just for being too old, or a few pounds heavier. I would never, ever, ever want that life.

GOD BLESS YOU! THIER IS A REASON FOR EVERY THING... AS FAR AS THE SHOW THEY WOULD NOT OF PICKED HER , IF SHE WAS NOT TOP MODEL MATERIAL. THE SHOW DOES CARE AND WILL PRESENT THAT IN AIRING SOMETHING TO HER TRIBUTE.MODELING IS A CAREER AS MUCH AS ANY OTHER EQUAL OPPUNITIY. WE CHOOSE OUR DESTINY WITH GODS DIVINE HELP.I WILL PRAY FOR HER CONTINUED RECOVERY AS WELL, AS WHAT HER FUTURE SHALL BRING.AS FAR AS THE SHOW THEY HAVE GIVEN MANY DESIGNERS 2ND CHANCES SO, THEY WILL TAKE GOOD CARE OF THIER OWN IN WHAT EVER THAT SHALL BE.

now seriously, if it was a neurosurgen that got hit, or maybe a gastrointeroligist, none of you would even know, nor would you care. you hear a story like this and all you have to say is aww this and jee that. point is, i hear thing like this all the time. and i dont see you crying over them. vanity is pretty lame if you ask me. looking good didnt get me anywhere. im a sr at Ohio state, and im doing good for myself. people like her are stuck up and think the world owe's them something. maybe now that shes not going to be as "pretty" maybe she will see what its like on the other side of the sh!t river that she helped fill. for all of you who think im full of sh!t, think back to high school. because nothing has changed since then. society still thrives on who looks good and who doesnt. looking good gets you better jobs. i mean seriously. who wants an accountant that has a 8day beard and smells kinda funny. if you dont understand what i mean. take a walk through your local mall. visit the following stores and take a look around. Hot topic, spencers, and then go to hollister and then abercrombie and fitch. and tell me who's stuck up. you might call them freaks. but the reality of it is. they will be the ones who make the most $ in this country because they arent depending on their looks to do well, they use their brains. and thats what pappa joe has to say
