More Sara/Grissom next season on CSI. Ew.

by Anna Johns, posted Jul 17th 2006 8:26PM
sara sidle; gil grissom; csiAccording to this writer for the Chicago Tribune, there is a "ferocious debate" going on over the season finale of CSI where Sara Sidle and Gil Grissom were in a bedroom together. (More like ferocious vomiting!) Apparently, fans worry the show will switch its focus to the characters' personal lives.

Anywho, the article includes an interview with CBS president Nina Tassler, who says that fans have embraced the connection between Sara and Grissom and that their relationship will be explored more in the next season. I still think they should've killed off Nick Stokes.

I, for one, can't understand the critics of the Grissom/Sara relationship. Yes, I also enjoy the scientific aspect of the show, but one of the things that keeps me watching each week has been the possibility that the two would FINALLY hook up. I mean, every season the writers have teased us with tidbits of information intimating that there are strong, yet repressed, feelings between them. Come on people! Grissom deserves to have a life outside of work--what's wrong with Sara being the center of it? They aren't innapropraite at work, so why does anyone care that they are co-workers?

Go back and watch all the seasons, from the beginning and in order. You will see how we got to the Season Six finale, which I thought was great. Sara and Grissom compliment each other. Sara has been more overt with her attraction to Grissom, but all you need to do is watch "Butterflied" where the dead woman resembled Sara. Grissom's reaction was very telling and you learn a lot by really listening to Grissom's soliloquy at the end. He is talking about himself as much as about the suspect.
Also, watch the episode where Grissom and Sara investigate the murder at the prison. When the inmate grabs Sara and is ready to cut her throat, the desperation on Grissom's face and in his voice when he pleads with the guard to open the door told the whole story.
As for an attraction between Catherine and Grissom - have you not noticed the Catherine/Warrick interaction and her reaction to his surprise marriage? I don't see a Catherine/Grissom pairing at all.
I love the scientific aspect of the show, don't get me wrong. I am fascinated by it and enjoy watching to see how it all unfolds, but I will also enjoy watching to see how the Grissom/Sara relationship unfolds.

I totally agree, Grissom and Sara can be summed up in one word- Ew. The producers and writers who said that the audience wholeheartedly embraced the supposed romance of Grissom and Sara are in denial. A recent study on the ratings of CSI indicated that "Once the most-watched show on television, CBS's "CSI" is in a mini-slump that began during the second half of the regular season and has worsened this summer with ratings for reruns down sharply from last year... It continues a trend that began near the end of the most recent season, when "CSI's" season finale average fell 22 percent from last year, from a 10.6 to an 8.3." The article is from here: http://www.medialifemagazine.com/artman/publish/article_6671.asp

So the ratings slump started from the second half of season 6, worsened in the season finale, and continued during the summer re-runs. The writer said the reason might be because the show is 'aging'. I also think that the dismal performance of CSI in the ratings is because the viewers were turned off by the choppy, boring storylines during the second half of season six worsened by the introduction of cringe-inducing Grissom and Sara. Oh joy, the CSI writers dug their own grave when they wrote the Grissom and Sara hook-up.. they should undo that before it gets too late.

I think Sara and Grissom make an awesome couple, I am super happy to see them together and I hope we see some skin and body-slappin' this season (that ought to get the spazzed-out naysayers fainting, lmao!!). Seriously, they are perfect for each other, they're both hot and I sincerely doubt the writers are going to turn CSI into a soap opera. It's ALL good!

I agree with Anna McCall that the writers of CSI are acting as if long time fans of the show are idiots and will buy into anything. I also agree that the show has been slipping badly lately. I don't agree with the Sarah/Grissom storyline because if they really wanted it they would have done it in the first season when Grissom's character was more playful and alive. Yes they may have been flirting for 6 years but so what Grissom has flirted with Catherine for 6 years I don't see them hooking them up. What about Lady Heather wasn't she supposed to be the only woman to have his heart. Grissom had a big thing for Terri the anthropologist but they married her off to someone else. I admit that I don't have a problem with Grissom having a girlfriend but it should not be someone who works for him. Did everyone forget about Sophia she doesn't work for Grissom anymore and we know that he has taken her out to dinner at least once. We also know that Sarah was jelous of Sophia so even Sarah must have thought that Grissom was dating Sophia. When Sophia came back as a detective you could see that Grissom missed her as much as she missed him. The reason that the 15 year age difference comes up with the fans is that the writers have said that Sarah worked with Grissom in California. Now anyone who has watched the show knows that Grissom has been in Vegas for 20 years before that he worked in California. Given that Grissom worked in California from the age of 22 until he was 30. So how did Sarah work with Grissom at that time she would have been between the ages of 7 and 15? Now tell me what are the writers trying to tell us about Grissom? We know that Grissom would not have been with Sarah at that time he is not like that. Even if you say she went to one of his seminars that doesn't mean they worked together. If Grissom ended up with Sarah he would be in a bug ward not playing with bugs because she would drive him crazy. Grissom wants a woman who won't JUDGE him well Sarah judges him constantly and she always complains if he gives another CSI a case she wanted to do. Look at her reaction when Grissom put Nick up for promotion she basically said he was stupid. This Thursdays show where the stepdaughter kills the mother and they try to make it look like it was an accident I think alot of people should whatch that show again. Because if Grissom and Sarah were having a relationship that show would have ended it. There is a scene in the bedroom they are talking about the husband and wife not sleeping in the same bed and Grissom said something about maybe the wife was suffocating the husband and the look he had on his face and Sarah's reaction says they are done. Catherine even made a comment about how co-workers shouldn't date each other because it was TROUBLE. I think that the writers are just trying to find the quickest way to write Grissom out of the show and completely kill the show because they know that Mr. Petersen wants out of the show and they know the fans would be really pissed if they killed him off. They also realize that without Mr. Petersen the show is dead in the water. The writers hint that they are killing of two characters. I would recommend that the first one be Sarah and then Hodges. I think they need to bring in a new character to be Grissom's girlfriend. I even wrote a story before I knew they were going with the Sarah GSR thing I created a girlfriend for Grissom who is an Anthropologist and Psychologist. I am sure that they should be able to give him a girlfriend.

i realize that many people were upset with the shows season finale thinking that csi will take on more as a drama than a sci-fi like show...but think about how long the show takes to cover the background stories for the characters...i mean catherines divorce took almost a whole season...and warrick's marriage...not to mention grissom's hearing problem...i don't think the writers are going to be more focused on the personal relationships than they have in the past. i do hope that they do bring back some of the playful banter though...like greg...he was so awesome until he became a "serious csi" i think the audience should be reminded how corky he was when he was in the lab. and they should also try to strenghten the relationships between catherine and her two guys-warrick and nick-they haven't seemed so freindly since the first couple of seasons. overall the producers should incoperate the character's relationships into the crime scenes and not spend valuable time on seperate scenes that are away from the crimes.

I am a longtime viewer of CSI: LV and am writing to let you know how I feel about changes to the show. The current plethora of spin doctoring that is going on by CBS administration (lovingly known at TPTB - the powers that be) is an insult to intelligent viewers. There are way too many issues in the previous years for viewers to suspend believe and suddenly buy into the Grissom/Sara storyline.

It is only a TV show, what difference does it make you might ask? In truth it doesn't make any difference accept that it is the right thing to do to speak up when someone is perpetrating a falsehood. You can tell the media that the finale ending was hugely successful but that does not make it the truth. It is disappointing that Ms. Tassler has given permission for CSI to fall in the ratings and admitted that it won't hold up against Grey's Anatomy when in truth, CSI never would have had to worry about competition had the series maintained its integrity and original concept.

In truth, the science is gone and Grissom is a mere shadow of his former self. There was a joy and childlike quality about Grissom in the first 4 seasons. When was the last time that Grissom "played" with his bugs? Played is the right word because of the sheer delight that Grissom had when involved in the investigation. You want relationships? What about the incredible friendship between Nick and Warrick? We haven't seen their playful banter for years now. When was the last time that science was in the forefront of the show? I can't answer this because it started to slip away so long ago (Season 5). Any show is only as successful as viewers are able to be involved with the characters. CSI characters were once among the most exciting to look forward to spending time with.

After reading Jorja Fox's comments in a recent article it is clearer than ever that CBS is trying to shove GSR down our throats as though we don't know the history of the show. Here it is, irrefutable proof, there is no chemistry between Jorja/Billy and there is no chemistry between Sara/Grissom, never has been and never will be. Jorja confirms this fact with her admission that she and William Petersen didn't even like each other. This sort of distain comes through on camera loud and clear and is not explained by saying that they are acting. WP and JF having "worked through" this issue at this time does not translate into being able to portray Sara and Grissom as the best of friends all this time. You already had in place the most powerful couple on television today. Grissom and Catherine had it in them to go down in history with the likes of John and Emma Peel but what was naturally there in the first place seems to have been ignored. Grissom and Catherine didn't even need to be romantic to have that kind of chemistry. All you had to do was let them do what they do naturally.

"I mean, obviously the Sara-Grissom thing has gone on for six years, but the idea to bring that to light happened before we knew we were going to be up against Grey's. "
Jorja Fox www.nowplayingmag.com/content/view/4197/2

Right here in black and white, the insult to intelligent viewers. Do you really expect us to accept that we are being treated as too stupid to see that Grissom has acted very badly toward Sara and that Sara has been a doormat for all that time? If the majority of your viewers are women, this is a sad commentary of the roles of women in entertainment.

With the advent of CSI: LV, CBS had it within reach to change television forever by acknowledging that viewers want intelligent shows that challenge and excite them. It took courage and vision to bring CSI to the viewers but took none of that to turn it into an everyday, just one of many, cookie cutter evening soap.

I'm sorry, but isn't anyone else GROSSED out at Sara being with anyone? UGH!

IMHO the only time those two should be in a bedroom together, should be because a dead body is present too.
