Read one critic's press tour adventures

by Joel Keller, posted Jul 18th 2006 12:12PM
TCA logoIt seems like everyone's been blogging from the TCA press tour this year. But one of the guys who's been blogging from the tour for a couple of years, Newark Star-Ledger critic Alan Sepinwall, seems to focus in on the more... uh... interesting elements of the event in his NJ.com blog. For instance, he recounts the scene at the Gilmore Girls session: he fights another reporter for microphone time, Lauren Graham gives a snippy retort to a reporter who asks about new show-runner Dave Rosenthal's checkered past, and the non-answers given by the stars during what Sepinwall calls "The Scrum", which is where the reporters gather around the stars in a more intimate fashion after the press conference is over. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

Could the other critic be Ausiello?

3:40 pm: I grab the microphone and, as I start to ask my question, Lauren says "Hi, Michael" from the stage. It's a beautiful moment that, unfortunately, gets pissed on by a reporter on the opposite side of the room who seems hell-bent on getting his question in before mine. A brief shouting match ensues, but I decide to take the high road and let him go ahead of me. It's not easy being such a class act.

3:43 pm: OK, I got my Luke-Lorelai question in. Basically, Rosenthal can't promise smooth sailing for the fractured pair. "Life is full of drama and conflict and confusion and choices you make and choices you regret," he says. "I think that's what makes for good storytelling."
