New reality show will be set in Macy's

macy'sAt this point, I think I've become numb to the deluge of reality programing that still continues to hammer us. I liken it to being repeatedly shot at pointblank range. Eventually, it doesn't matter how many bullets have entered your body, because you've pretty much just accepted they're not going to stop and there's nothing you can do to stop it, anyway. Still, Unwrapping Macy's is allegedly different than other reality shows because it's the first one to make a corporate retailer the centerpiece of the show. The series, which kicks off on September 30 on the WE network for an initial eight-episode run, will offer a look into what it's like to work at the store. You'll see how they choose merchandise, put together their catalog, and force homeless people at knife point to inflate the Underdog balloon every Thanksgiving. My god, that sounds absolutely riveting.

I think that they're going over their heads with starting reality shows. What, they're so sure that they'll get 20 to 30 million viewers and thinking dollar signs just because American Idol did so well its fifth season? And Mark Burnett can't be everywhere, so why must his heavily-copied reality show concept be filmed in a Macy's? To me, Macy's is a classy department store and a reality show would hurt some of its reputation. I've been to 2 Macy's stores in Atlanta in summer 2002 and the staffs there were very helpful in finding certain items. But you can't do every reality show on everyday life. Some things are meant to be done in private, thank you. And too many reality shows have tanked because of low ratings, they weren't thought out right and they were just plain SORRY!

And will they have an episode depicting Macy's cowtowing to rightwing bigots and removing a gay pride display? I hate Macy's (and all Federated stores), they are rude, hypocritical bigots who will never, ever get another dollar out of me. And, I will make a point to avoid doing business with any of the sponsors of this show.

I thought this season's Project Runway was shot in Macy's. I mean, nearly every shot has the Macy's logo in it.
