Arrested Development lives! In syndication, that is

by Richard Keller, posted Jul 26th 2006 11:47PM

Arrested Development will live on in syndicationI have a feeling that the following post about a new syndication deal for Arrested Development will sound unusual now, but will become standard fare as the worlds of television and the Internet continue to merge.

A syndication agreement has been reached between three different companies to syndicate the entire 53-episode run of the critically acclaimed comedy Arrested Development. The agreement was made between Internet portal MSN and cable networks HDNet and G4. According to AOL Entertainment News, the deal marks the first time a web portal has grabbed a fairly recent piece of the rerun market in conjunction with two cable networks.

MSN, which will make viewings of the series free to subscribers, will have rights to the show for three years beginning this fall. HDNet will also have a three year deal and will begin airing the show in September. Comcast-owned G4, which is attempting to diversify its programming, will air AD starting in October.

I love this show. Fox lost a big fan, and many big fans, when it let this show vanish. It was pure genius TV and the more exposure it gets the better. Fox should have been ahead of the game and distributed it online from the start instead of bouncing it around the channels. It was very low on Neilson ratings (who believes them anymore? They are ridiculous for cult shows) but it was competing neck and neck with Curb Your Enthusiasm and 24 as most-watched illegally-downloaded show on the Internet for season 2 and 3, even beating Scrubs. Fox made a HUGE MISTAKE and Murdoch (who is said to have personally hated the show) is a *Footage not Found*

Hope this doesn't affect the possibility of an AD film i've been reading about!

AD on G4?! Now, not that I'm complaining (this time), but remember when G4 was nothing but video games? Now the only strictly video game show is X-Play (I believe), the only thing kept from TechTV. Interesting....

So we have a reason to watch G4 now?

That is great news! I'll be getting the DVDs someday, but until then, if I don't have them by then, the airings will tide me over. Another great show gone far too soon.
