The Office: Episode 9

The Office
This episode focused mostly on David's growing disgust/jealousy toward Neil and the near-breakdown of Tim and Dawn's friendship. The constant jokes about David's heeled boots were great because I really do see men wearing those around... It was just the right amount of ridiculous. Wearing a knock-off version of Neil's jacket was the icing on the cake. We learned that David's idea of being bad-ass is slightly different from the rest of the world's...

David: You know that old thing... "Live fast, die young"? Not my way. Live fast, sure. Live too bloody fast sometimes! But... die young? [shakes his head] Die old. That's the way I -- I'm not orthodox. I don't live by "the rules".

One of the Swindon girls, Trudy, celebrated her birthday by opening a bunch of gifts from her co-workers, the best of which included a leather basque and a bright pink dildo. Rachel challenged Tim to sneak the dildo into David's office. The way he did it was so beautifully seamless. Oh man... Like a ninja (with impressive acting skills). I can only aspire to be that sneaky. All these silly, flirtatious pranks made Dawn visibly jealous, but she attempted to suppress it the best she could. Gareth, on the other hand, wasn't so sly and forcibly tried to steal Rachel away from Tim. The Tim/Dawn situation was made even worse when, during Tim's tour of the warehouse, Lee and a couple of the sleazy workers made rude jokes about Dawn (Lee even grabbed her chest and said that she'd take off her top for a tenner) and the look on Tim's face was so painful... He stared for a few moments, like he was unsure of whether or not he should jump in and punch Lee in the face.

Two consultants, Ray and Jude, showed up to recruit David to speak at training seminars. After hearing that he'd be paid £300 for about fifteen minutes of speaking, David agreed to join. My favorite moment from the entire episode was when David talked about the guy that recommended him for the job "Oh! Next time you see him, just ask him if he got the grass stains out of his trousers... Not in front of his wife!" and then suddenly remembered he was on-camera. Perfectly done. My second favorite moment was right after David sealed the deal and, after picking up his folder, found Trudy's dildo on his desk. "Okay, everybody! What... am I doing in there... with a dildo?!" Amazing.

Tim and Dawn eventually got together to pull a trick on Gareth... Tim glued Gareth's phone together and then gave him a call. Gareth was really pissed off when he realized that Tim had glued his phone but he continued to pull at it, trying to catch it before it stopped ringing (he didn't know it was Tim on the other line). Tim had the greatest look on his face as he watched Gareth. As if that wasn't reason enough to love Tim, he proved to be the complete opposite of David... in the sense that he was much more honest about his shitty position in life. "I live in Slough, in a lovely house... with my parents. Haha. I have my own room!... Which I've had since... yeah... since I was born. Um... That's seen a lot of action. Mainly dusting. But, um, I went to university for a year... before I dropped out... so, I'm a quitter! So, yeah. Form an orderly queue, ladies."

The episode ended with yet another great moment... Chris Finch and Neil kept making fun of David, saying that if he ever got the chance to bang anyone in The Corrs, he'd probably end up with the brother...

David: No! I'd push the brother out of the room, get the other three, bend them all over! I'd do the drummer, the lead singer, and that one that plays violin!

The thrusting motions were too much for me. I remember I almost died from laughing the first time I saw it. Everyone in the office went dead silent and stared at David... except for Tim, who made sure to look at the camera, as if to say, "Holy shit, did you just get that?"

Oh man, there's nothing like getting all drunk in a pub in London with a bunch of fellow Office freak friends and imitating the Corrs scene over and over... Man, those were the days. And Annie, I don't think it's so much the thrusting motions as it is the sheerly demented look on Ricky Gervais' face... The biting the lip, the look in his eye.... so creepy.
