The Office Webisodes -- Number 4: Stanley

by Michael Sciannamea, posted Jul 27th 2006 10:35PM

Stanley, The Office's grouchI'm sure anyone who has ever worked in an office environment has worked with someone that shares Stanley's personality. They consider their job as just a "job", they don't interact that much with their co-workers, and they don't care much about the company. As long as he/she gets his/her paycheck, that's fine with them.

Oscar, Kevin, and Angela are continuing their investigation into the missing $3,000, and they now question Stanley. Of course, he is thrilled that this has happened, and feels whoever took the money deserves his praise. Kevin and Oscar want to back off, but Angela remains persistent and insists that if Stanley knows who did it that he tells them. Stanley basically shrugs them off, and walks out of the room.

As usual, Angela is snippy with Kevin and sarcastically calls him a "genius", but Kevin says his IQ qualifies him as one. (His demonic smile is priceless.)

Oscar then divulges that both his mom is visiting, and he is disappointed that he won't be able to go out with his friends to see The Prince of Tides and make comments out loud in the theatre about the film. He describes it as a "Rocky Horror Picture Show" kind of experience. I'm not totally sure where this was going. We know that Oscar's sexuality came into question (by Dwight) during the past season, but this seemed rather gratuitous.

I liked the interaction with Stanley, but the dynamic between the three accountants is beginning to get tedious. Maybe we'll see some sort of surprise appearance by either Michael, Dwight, Jim, or Pam in a future webisode? It would definitely kick things into a higher gear.

Ed Helms joins The Office?

It sounds true...

Oscar's sexuality was not called into question, but he had to catch himself with what he was saying. The joke is that gay men love Barbra Streisand and that's why he and his friends are going to see it. Oscar lied about going to make fun of it.

And Kevin says his IQ is "over 100" which is not genius level :)

I'm not sure if you mean that Oscar's sexuality was called into question within the office environment, but Oscar is gay. Dwight was threatening to expose the fact that Oscar had skipped work; Oscar was afraid that Dwight knew that he was gay and would out him.

I haven't seen the webisode, and that particular joke sounds dumb, but it's consistent with a (tv) gay character.
