Stephen Colbert nails DC delegate - VIDEO!

by Annie Wu, posted Jul 28th 2006 11:50AM
Stephen ColbertOn The Colbert Report, there's a recurring segment called "Better Know A District", during which Stephen Colbert interviews a congressperson from whatever district he happens to be covering. Note that it was during this segment that Colbert recently prodded at Bob Wexler to say, "I enjoy cocaine because it's a fun thing to do", causing a bit of a controversy among the media. Anyway, Thursday night's "BKAD" was amazing. Stephen paid a visit to the District of Columbia and spoke with delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, who was clearly not in on the joke. Stephen insisted that DC isn't part of the US, rudely harped on the fact that Norton doesn't vote, and even accused her of undressing him with her eyes. Ohh, NAILED! This is one of the best "BKAD"s ever and is definitely worth a watch. Catch the video after the jump!

".....who doesn't like stereotyping being a flatout racist right in front of the camera."
I hate to nitpick here, but French people aren't a separate race. That said, Eleanor knew exactly what was going on. She's a sharp lady is FAR more "with it" than most other politicians.

I've watched this three times now and I dont think she "clearly" is not in on the joke like most of the BKADs. Yes, I see how it's possible, but my first instinct was she was playing along with him as best she can. I thought she was pretty funny with the France and plain vanilla bits. I think it looks like she's not in on it because Colbert is a master at improv.

There is also some blatant editing going on so I always wonder what the full interviews actually look like...

In fourth grade, I once got grounded for a week for my mom catching me drawing stink lines from Eleanor Holmes Norton's picture in my local newspaper.

After watching this, I still think my stink lines were justified.

This was one of the better BKADs, but I don't really think she was "nailed", in fact, she was more on the ball than most of the people he interviews.

It's just that Colbert is well, Colbert.

HA! I love this. In the last few weeks, we're really shown what idiots our nation's politicians really are; all because of the internet. I love it!

I love when Colbert really got her into the corner about 'people of color' and how she was distuingwishing black and white and how Colbert saw himself as an American only; and then when the she said she thinks it's terrible when people are stereotyped. BUSTED!

And the part when she flipped out over Colbert maybe being from France? A U.S. Representative who supports a hiring leg up for people of color, who doesn't like stereotyping being a flatout racist right in front of the camera. BUSTED AGAIN!

These politicians are such 2 faced, double dealing liars.
