Maura Tierney files for divorce... I didn't even know she was married!

by Joel Keller, posted Jul 31st 2006 10:52AM
Maura TierneyFor some reason, Maura Tierney always struck me as a person who marched to a different beat. She's never been into the glamorous aspects of being a well-known actress, and her demeanor always made her seem like she'd be the hot drinking buddy men have wanted to be around since the beginning of time. Because of this, I always imagined that the ER star was single, flouting society's conventions and going her own way because she just wasn't a traditional woman.

I couldn't have been more wrong. Turns out Maura's getting a divorce from her husband of 13 years, actor Billy Morrissette. The reason is the old favorite, irreconcilable differences. This means that Maura has been married since before she started NewsRadio, which was when my (and likely Bob's) crush on her started. Actually, now that I think about it, I do recall something about a husband somewhere down the line. I guess I just wanted to block it out.

Well, I have been known to have the same sort of non-nuturing attitude toward my hubby. Too many days whining on the couch for too many kidney stones. LOL As for missing work...for HER not to go in there would be countless others at a standstill and being paid for it. Don't imagine production companies appreciate that lack of work ethics....and would probably have let her go as soon as possible.

I saw the e.r. actress Maura Tierney on Conan OBrien and she told this story about her husband. Anybody could tell she was joking. She and Conanjoked they were both from Boston Irish catholic families with strong work ethic. she told that her mom would make her and her sister vacuum if they wanted to stay home from school so that they wouldn't want to. Conan told funny stories about his dadbeing a strict doctor and how they have to be dying to stay home. They were laughing and enjoying themselves about growingup that way.

my friend and I are huge fans of her (we love scotland, PA) and it's a little sad that they're getting divorced, but I guess everyone has their reasons. I'm finding it funny how everyone has strong opinions on her, really. I think she's great, but that's just me. I don't really agree with the joseph mengele reference. he's a disturbed nazi, she's an actress that didn't drive her husband to the hospital. you're allowed to believe she's a bitch if you want, but come on. I don't think that comparison is warranted at all. like, wow. really.

" Well, well, well. Looks like DeeDee, KzamInUsa, Silly, Doc Sharon and CarterLukaFan have found ONE more place to spread their hate of Maura Tierney. *huge yawn"

Do the "fans" of this woman smoke her hair or something? What are you talking about?

Are these people the ones who conducted the interview?

Anyway...the way she describes herself in the article is as someone who is not very nice.

Is she nice to her fans? Probably, but that type of 'nice' seems very skin deep only.

When it counts, it seems like she's a bit self absorbed.

Anyway, it's not surprising that "Anybody who's a real fan of Maura's" doesn't have a problem with that type of person.

Don't listen to what these psycho hags have to say. Anybody who's a real fan of Maura's knows the story about Billy's appendectomy and what happened. She's told the story countless times on talk shows and in interviews. She probably was tired of giving the same old answer and tried to be funny about it. Things in the printed word always come out differently than hearing them on TV or in person.

I dunno... everything you folks have been talking about makes her even more appealing to me. Well, everything except the part about her husband's appendicitis...

Know what? Screw that last part. I just read the article. It doesn't do a good job of conveying her tone, though the intro does say she has a "dry wit". I'm betting she was more joking than serious, but it just didn't come through in the article.

" Is this the same actress that was arrested for breaking & entering, and minor theft around the same time that winona ryder was doing 'reasearch' into shoplifting for an upcoming role?"

Yep - she's one and the same.

She's also the actress whose potty mouth and excessive drinking during the poker tournament described in the article caused many people to complain about her (and this was a poker tournament in Vegas so she must have really been out of line) and cost the tournament its major corporarte sponsor.

i don't know if i'm sympathetic to her husband, because maybe he liked that kind of treatment.

i absolutely don't find her comments to be "joking". flippant is the word that i would use as if she feels that there is little wrong with acting this way.

what i find odd is that the interviewer gushes about this woman like she's the second coming of christ even though there is something odd about her behavior.

are we so callous as a society, so blinded by celebrity, that we don't raise even an eyebrow about this type of behavior?

if her husband were my son, i would have told him to get rid of her a while back.

it didn't seem like she was joking. she really didn't take him to the hospital even though she thought that he was sick.

and although i think that it's cool that she admitted that she's not a nurturer or patient person, she sounds like a decent one night stand - if i couldn't find anyone hotter (i saw her in New York recently and she's not that hot in my book) but NOT someone that i would have a serious relationship with.
