'American Pie' bros. set up two comedies at NBC

weitz brothersThey came up with the idea to have Jason Biggs have sex with a pie. Now, brothers Chris and Paul Weitz are working a development deal with NBC. They're creating two single-camera comedies. One is called The Trail, about a group of friends that become bored with their lives and decide to ditch everything to hike the Appalachian Trail. The brothers are actually working on that show with another pair of siblings, Mark and Jay Duplass, who made the low budget movie, The Puffy Chair (which has a terrific script but the shaky camera work made me woozy). The other show in the works for the Weitz brothers is Terrible Life, about an incompetent guardian angel who gets one last chance to prove his worth.

Crap, posted too quick. Thinking back, Off Centre also had guest appearances by other American Pie alums, including Jason Biggs as a career counselor, Shannon Elizabeth as Cho's insane girlfriend, and Eugene Levy as a wisecracking urologist with personalized plates that read 'PP DOC'. Good grief, I watch too much TV. :D

It is worth mentioning that previous to this, the Weitz brothers made the hilarious, but underappreciated, sit-com Off Centre. It also had ties to American Pie, as it starred Eddy Kaye Thomas and John Cho, and both of them were in American Pie, American Pie 2, and American Wedding. While not an American Pie alum, the other star of Off Centre, Sean Maguire, can be seen in The Class, coming this fall.
