Comedy Central says yes to Jon Stewart-produced pilot

by Joel Keller, posted Aug 8th 2006 3:36PM
Jon StewartJon Stewart is becoming quite the mogul, isn't he? Not only does his production company, Busboy Productions, crank out the gigantic hit show The Colbert Report four nights a week, but Comedy Central also has a first-look development deal with the company. This means that whatever pilot script Jon and company develop, CC gets the first shot at it.

It looks like they like what Jon's been producing, as word comes that they've picked up a pilot for a fictional comedy called Three Strikes, which takes place in the world of minor-league baseball. So, if this gets made into a series, are we going to rename the network Jon Stewart's Comedy Central? I wonder how the boys from South Park would feel about that?

Ummm... I kinda like Mencia. He's one of the few comedians that makes no pretense for what he's doing; it's just funny observational humor, with a pinch of cynicism.
And although I wouldn't call Jon Stewart a hack, I do think that he's kind of over-hyped and struggles to bridge the gap between outlandish comedy and legitimate political punditry.

I'm all with Gavin on dumping "Mind of Mencia"--what kindergartner actually finds that either funny or daring?

But James--seriously? Jon was winning awards when Clinton was still in office. You can't shoot the comedian just because the current president happens to hand him reams of high-quality comic material for free.

And, personally, I thought he was really great at the Oscars. Just because the self-important stiffs in the audience didn't laugh doesn't mean he wasn't funny.

Matt and Trey are still the kings of Comedy Central.

John Stewart is the most over-rated, overhyped TV personality in America today.. Just look at how he bombed at the OSCARS this year. He owes whatever carrer he has to George Bush (you know our idiot President, who is a joke within itself). After all it's Bush and the GOP who has provided Stewart the hack with 90% of his ongoing jokes. If Kerry had won, no one would tune into Stewart. Think about it.

Maybe its because I've only seen Jon in a suit and tie on the Daily Show but man does he have hairy arms.

I'm a bit worried about him expanding to a normal comedy show, I feel as though there's a "Death to Smoochy" curse on most of the things he touches.

Stewart should to end up being the head of programming Comedy Central. They should dump crap like Mad TV, Mind of Mencia, Blue Collar Comedy, and let Jonny work his magic.
