How Meredith Vieira got the Today job... on her own terms

Meredith VieiraTomorrow's edition of The New York Times Magazine has an interesting profile of Meredith Vieira, who's about a month away from taking the Today anchor chair vacated by Katie Couric. In the article, written by Lisa Belkin, we get a picture of Vieira that isn't far off from what she showed on The View for nine years; a little goofy, dedicated to her work, but very family-oriented. That devotion to her husband, suffering from multiple sclerosis, and her three children is most of the reason why she left 60 Minutes fifteen years ago and turned down every high-profile news gig since. The article also goes into what made her change her mind when NBC came calling earlier this year.

But what I find the most intriguing part of the article is how inquisitive she is with some fellow pet store customers (she was buying a scratching post for her new kittens). It's the same inquisitiveness and curiosity that I see every time I watch her on Millionaire. For that reason, and the fact that she's going to let things fly that Katie never would, I'm really looking forward to seeing her with Matt, Ann, and Al this fall.

Meredith Vieira was one of the reasons I turned off the "View". I believe she is very self absorbed, cocky and comes across as "I am so great." She is NOT funny, entertaining or classy. Too bad for the "Today" show.

Although I have never watched The View properly, Meredith Viera is one of the few people on TV I really like, apart from Conan and Craig Ferguson. She is smart, has a great sense of humor, and is really attractive for her age. I love it whenever she appears on Conan...she is one of the few people who can make Conan squirm.

Although I didn't hate Katie Couric, Viera gives me a reason to tune into the Today Show.

Finally, she's gone and soon to be forgotten and Now an intelligent person takes the chair. The only reason to watch the View was Meredith. She's smart and has no problem making fun of herself.
It's like having a Big Sister some one with an opinion and someone you trust.
Welcome Meredith.

I love Meredith and that was a great article on her. The View has not been the same without her, she was the voice of reason, not Barbara. She has a great sense of humor and has no problem of making fun of herself. After 20 years, she has stayed the same and you can't say that about Katie. I'm watch the Today Show every day and I can't wait for her to join the show. Thanks for the link.
