High Times editor talks Weeds

weedsAfter you've read Mike's review of the second season premiere of Weeds, you should check out this review by Steve Bloom, editor-at-large of High Times. I suppose if anyone can talk about the show with any authority, it would be someone who works for a magazine devoted completely to marijuana and marijuana culture (though I've never been impressed with the mag itself, which rarely has anything new to say on its single topic). Bloom wrote the guest piece for the blog BC Beat, the online companion to Broadcasting and Cable. Unfortunately, I don't have Showtime, so I haven't had the pleasure of watching the show, but it sounds like something I would enjoy. I have thought about checking it out on iTunes, however. What do you guys think? Is it worth slapping down a bit of cash?

Speaking for others in the pothead community (such as it is), I must disagree with Jeff. The show is brilliant, pure and simple. The best dramedy on TV, it nicely mixes some intelligent pot humour with biting social commentary on the so-called perfect life of the suburbs. A superb cast (incl. Kevin Nealon) shines, so Adam, it's well worth your time.

Jeff any time a drug, legal or illegal, weed or not, takes control of your life a 12 step program is a fine cure for some people. And while I agree with you 100% dude that "Trying to equate pot to hard core drugs like crack or even booze is down right pathetic," this show in no way does that. If anything it exposes the ridiculous hypocrisy of weed laws.

This show is redicoulsy stupid.. First of all, who enters AA for pot?? Give me a fuckin break.. Also, a subarban housewife dealing pot is as retarded as a Wall Street Broker who deals Crack on the side.. Anyone who finds anything the leasr bit redemable about this show should lay off the crack.. KEvin Nealon used to be cool,l I guess.

Also have you ever heard of needing a sponsor for a "pot addiction".. Myself and millions of potheads should boycott this show for pure stupdity..Trying to equate pot to hard core drugs like crack or even booze is down right pathetic.

I Netflixed the first season and loved it. I can't wait for second season to hit DVD now. So I have to say it's worth it.
