New time travel drama picked up by NBC

quantum leapAs I write this, I can't help but think this story is a joke. How could it be real? Apparently NBC has ordered the pilot for a science fiction show about a man who travels through time to right wrongs. Does that sound like Quantum Leap to you, too? There must be more to it because, while it was on the air for five seasons, I just am not seeing a big calling for bringing back Leap. Seaquest DSV, yes. But Quantum Leap? Nah.

The series is the brainchild of Kevin Falls, who has a pretty impressive writing resume including West Wing, Sports Night, North Shore, Arli$$ and The Lyon's Den.

A: Voyagers mention! Sweet.
B: After a gap of a few years The Theyâ„¢ always want to add time travelling to the 'wrong-righting wanderer' genre.
C: 'Quantum Leap' was finished. The plot was explained and sewn up in the final episode. They could fudge it, but people would be pissed.
4: Anna! You'd vote to bring back Seaquest? Bad blogger!

Well, superficially, it does sound like another Quantum Leap - but let's face it, there are different ways you could take the theme - Doctor Who and Sliders, for example. We could yet be surprised. :)

Why would you question the making of a time travel show simple because QL was a hit? There are have been many series with this basic premise. Some worked and some didn't. Hollywood is known for redesigning old material. The trick is in how well they write it and this writer has some skills. (Personally, I'd like to see one more season of surface so we can see an actual ending. sigh)

UPN had "7 days" with an explicit "backstep" for a max of 7 days to right a just occured wrong.

Maybe it's a case of everything old is new again?

At one point about maybe 5 years back. Sci-Fi channel was going to develop a new Quantum Leap with Belasario onboard and there was even talk of somehow involving Bakula.

And did anyone ever actually watch Arli$$? I know it was on for maybe six seasons, but I don't know anyone who's actually seen an episode.

This sounds only a little like "Quantum Leap." (For one thing, there doesn't seem to be much *leaping* involved here.) There's no indication if this would be about a man travelling throughout time, or just back to one specific point, to prevent specific wrongs.

It may all be a moot point anyway. There's no guarantee this will ever see the light of day.

Maybe its a remake of "Time Tunnel"? James Darren, Lee Meriweather... 1966 all over again.

I loved Quantum Leap but can not imagine it being done again. Granted this time around anyone seeing some guy standing around talking to himself would think handsfree cell phone. At least that is what I am relying on to keep the men in white coats at bay.....

While West Wing and Sports Night must be gold on a writer's resume - didn't North Shore and Lyon's Den tank?

Seven years earlier was a, I dare say, better time-travelling-righting-wrongs duo, Phineas Bogg and Jeffrey Jones of VOYAGERS! As it said in the opening credits:

"We travel through time to help history along. Give it a push when it's needed. When the Omni's Red it means history's wrong. Our job is to get everything back on track. Green light kid, We did it!"
