Stargate SG-1 Cancelled? [Confirmed]

by Will O'Brien, posted Aug 21st 2006 5:58PM
Anderson in SG-1:200It's not official from SciFi just yet, but it sounds like Stargate SG-1 is getting cancelled. Multichannel news reports that they heard the show was cancelled on the eve of the 200th episode. Gateworld reports that it received confirmation of it from one of their sources. (Oh, and it sounds like Stargate Atlantis was renewed.)

Considering that it's on its tenth season, I'm not surprised about the news. If we take the 200th episode seriously, I'm betting the producers are looking to make a movie. Take everything you see/hear/read/channel with a grain of salt, nothing's official just yet.

[Thanks to Mack Swift for the tip]

Looks like SciFi has confirmed the cancellation (and the renewal of Atlantis). Thanks to Fred for the link]

Big shame, i kinda hate atlantis and i was very young when SG-1 Started (i even saw the movie). But i think if we all want to change the fact is to spam the mailboxes (real ones) of the MGM Studios, Sci-fi Studios, and Stargate Studios has well (i think i saw some adresses in the last page). Anyway send them a card saying.. to mgm studios to pick up were sci-fi blew it if they're picking Stargate up, to Sci-fi saying that they're being complete dumbasses and to Stargate studios to show your support and admiration.
I know this sounds silly but, if you really want this to work pass the word, if they see a bunch load of mail rushing in (i don't doubt if people interested did it at least a couple trucks would appear :p ).

Pass the word, its up to us now, even though we might get 0 of it we should at least try (im from portugal and im mailing btw) and for the majority of people it won't cost has much... like i said pass the word, let the audience stand his ground.

My 2 Cents.

rda was the shpw and no-one could outdo him. The constant promotion get in his way, leaving him with nothing to do but files, which he hated. Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping and Christopher/Tealc, were a team, which many other shows miss. But RDA back, and on out-world activities, he will come back. He never let anyone down in MacGiver. Has he still got sandy hair??? In fact bring back MacGiver too.

Bring back RDA, its hopeless with the new cast. RDA and the cast made the show. The others just imitated the show. Can we see the 1,2,3,4,5,,6,7, series again on repeat. I never got to see the start of programme. I hate Stargate Atlantis. If RDA can appear in this show, surely he could be tempted back. Theres a lot of space out there , and plenty of new stories to be created. Please bring original cast back SG007

sad/happy fan

(sigh) :_ ( well, all good things must come to an end. in a way, i am sad that they are cancelling it instead of letting it run on its last little legs. its kind of funny, i heard about it on Conan O'Brian and i thought it was a joke. i went online and googled it and i almost started crying, sad, but true. and yet in a way, i am happy they are putting it to an end. if they drag it out for another 5 seasons, even with the new cast, people will say the same thing they said when chappelle decided to walk. "its not as good as last season was." i think of all times, now is the best chance to stop the show. when RDA decided to leave, he left because he knew that eventually it would have to come to an end. if they wanted to have some element of it in atlantis, the series finale should be that the ori ships (all of them) come to earth because the stargate program decided to bring all the refugees they could because other planets were already controlled by the Ori. then, with earth being the last planet to be turned, they attack because they know they wont change. in desparation, the air force tells the world about the stargate program and what was looming on the outer edges of the atmosphere, and if people wanted to live they would have to go either to the antartica site or the colorado gate. the last few seconds of the series could be of earth being obliterated and blown to bits and being realistic, having mass casualties that couldnt make it throught the gate. where would they go? Atlantis. from time to time, there could be guest appearances on the show from the sg1 cast, and heck even RDA could drop by from time to time. it would definately spice up atlantis and its story line with more familiar faces. maybe the exexs could hear this and take notice hint hint. anyway, long live stargate in all its glory. we will miss you dearly. you have a special place in my heart.

The comments here are similar to the comments I've seen for other cancelled series such as Farscape. The difference here is that SG-1 has been on for a formidable 10 years, the major starting plot lines have been completed (and then some) and there's a decent spin-off out there if you want to re-visit the Stargate world. This isn't comparable to Farscape, where there was a huge discusting cliff-hanger, and they said "Okay, no more shows. Sorry."

I'd like to see it be another ER; I think we all would. Cycle in and out new actors and let it roll forever. But, it's not going to happen. I'm happy they made Season 10, and there's still a handful of episodes to watch. I'm willing to bet they tie most things up, and leave a few strings out there "just in case."

I'd rather know now then after the season ends.

I read one of your comments saying that it's all about the money, blah blah. Well, that's true to a point. I do believe that there's more to it in this case; A show such as SG-1 takes a lot more then the actors you see on the screen. The writers, support staff, and everyone else are all necessary to make something like this happen. After ten years of working on the same show, I'm willing to bet that a lot of these people would like to move on to new things. We don't live forever.

I'm very sad to see it go, and I am grateful for the good times I had watching the show. Don't be upset about this - SciFi did right by Stargate, unlike Farscape.

keep sg1 going its so important and its one of the best sci-fi shows ever. you need sg1 too keep atlantis going even though atlantis is fantastic because you need the all important crossover episodes and what happens every time the atlantis base calls the sgc too send thier weekly reports. sg1 needs to stay on tv for all fans out there and for science fictions sake because it will be losing one of the best sci-fi programs ever if it doesnt. scifi and mgm have made a huge mistake by scrapping the show. we need to keep all stargate going. bring on another stargate film as well, have both sg1 and atlantis in the film because then you can introduce enemies from both shows to each other opening too huge battle sequences and a great storyline that can involve all species from sg1 such as the asgard whohm will protect the humans. both sg1 and atlantis are vital too keeping the stargate dream going. cant imagine tv without stargate.

stargate sg1 is great so why scrap it, at least put it on another channel. atlantis is great too and im glad that it is carrying on. sg1 should remain on tv because the ratings for it are huge and the amount of fans that follow the show is huge also, it should also remain so we can still have those great cross over episodes. a film would be great as it could possibly introduce another series. stargate sg1 should remain on tv even if it is just reruns. im going too miss sg1.

I hate to see it go. As a SciFi fan for all of my life, you don't see too many really good shows come along. Yes, at times it may drag a bit and a show may not be as good as some others, but all in all, what would Friday night be without StargateSG1? Hopefully, they will at least keep the reruns on every afternoon for those of us who can never get enough.
