What shows should be canceled immediately?

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 23rd 2006 3:42PM

Larry KingSix different writers at Salon have chosen the TV shows that should be cancelled. Most of the shows they pick aren't really surprises: Larry King Live, Nancy Grace, The O.C, The L Word. But I'm surprised they listed 24 and The Closer.

We talk a lot here about the shows we don't like, the shows that should go away, the shows that never should have made it on the air at all (not to mention contests predicting which new shows that simply won't last). Here are the six shows I think should be cancelled (in no particular order):

Larry King Live
Nancy Grace
American Dad
ER
Jerry Spinger

one or two of the CSI shows

What shows would you pick?

"How I Met Your Mother" (Another colorless "Friends" rip off....just like CBS's newest show "The Class")

"Maury" (The man keeps DNA testing labs in business single handedly)

"According To Jim" (No man has gotten more success out of the legacy of his late brother then Jim Belushi has)

"The O'Reilly Factor" (One of the only shows on cable news that is 80% fiction)

"The Simpsons" (Past it's prime and should have been cancelled years ago)

"America's Got Talent" (No we don't)

Honorable Mentions:
"American Idol"
"Tucker" (Or whatever Tucker Carlson's show is called this week)
"Entertainment Tonight"
"Survivor"
"Yes, Dear"
"Jerry Springer"
"Passions"
and any "reality" show on FOX other then "COPS."

All TV is BS, Jeff. Reality TV, like any documentary is utter fabrication. There cannot exist an objective documentary as humans assemble the footage, add the sound, etc. This reminds me of people whining about Michael Moore; as if moore's work is any different than the penguin documentary. They're both works of fiction.

The premise of the 30 days is to show how someone adapts or lives in a situation they are either opposed to or not comfortable being with. But you cant get the true story of what happened when the producers and host of the show have an agenda. This is the main point with all reality shows and why they are not good tv because they are just a bunch of edits put together so in essence not "real". (The Ultimate Fighter is the exception due to them showing all fights unedited in their entirety unlike The Contender). I did not say all Muslims were terrorists and neither did the article, it simply stated the Muslims they picked out were of known criminal behavior. The extremist Muslim sects are the minority so why doesn't the majority, which is the law abiding Muslim community, step up and regulate their own? I dont hold prejudice to any person but I do know BS when I see it and 30 Days is just that...BS.

Ten shows that shold be cancelled (because to list all the shows I think should be cancelled would take too long):

The War At Home (how did it survive this long)
Nancy Grace (opinionated person who won't let fact get in the way of a good prosecution - or a good CV)
The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch (the only reason he has a show is because he's Trump's buddy)
Ghost Whisperer (can't stand it)
CSI: Miami (I love everyone on this show but Caruso, and since he dominates it in a way that Sinise and Petersen don't dominate their CSIs it has to go)
Jerry Springer (the town dump for trailer trash)
Judge Judy (all "real court" shows really but this one makes me want to reach through the screen and strangle her)
Attack Of The Show (well really the entire G4 line-up except X-Play - will someone give you (I'm Canadian and our G4-Tech TV is different) a real channel dedicated to technology?)
Dog: The Bounty Hunter (can't stand him or his entire family)
The Bachelor/Bachelorette (makes me want to vomit)

Nancy Grace is a moron - During Katrina a reporter on site told her that people were barbequing to eat. She actually asked how they could bbq without water. The reporter after 10 seconds of stunned silence told her, "uh matches, lighters".

@29, Jeff

Yeah blogs are great for un-biased opinions, aren't they...

Fine, if you want to believe that there's a third of the global population that's a bunch of terrorists and freako-psychos looking to kill you at the drop of a jihad, go ahead and live in your little paranoid life.
I know muslims, have neighbors who are muslims, and it's no threat to me. They live their life, I live mine. We get along great, have good discussions over our beliefs, and we move on from it.

Are there extreme muslims, yeah... There's the same thing with Christians too. Just that the majority of US citizens are more accepting of it because the US was based off of Christian ideaology.

And let me ask you this about the production standards of 30 days. If you've ever produced a TV show, you know you're going to have a "plot outline" of what you're going to shoot. Otherwise your shoot is going to be a sloppy mess if you don't plan ahead. So, yeah, they knew what they were going to get when they sent Stacy to live with the family. And honestly, what did you think they'd find? Do you think that Stacy'd stumble across some magical hidden room in their home where they keep their chemical workshop?

You could point out fallacy in this all day long about how they "hand-picked" the Muslims they wanted to expose Stacy too. You think the producers groomed/paid off a family into not being "evil" for a month or something? Criminy, what's wrong with you to assume anything less than there ARE normal Muslims out there who DON'T want to kill Americans? Yeah, there's going to be a loon out there, but he's no worse than a christian man who wants to murder people.

Quit trying to use religion as an excuse for justifying a few bad people.
