Stargate SG-1: Counter Strike

(S10E06) SG-1 is back from it's plot hiatus for 200. Morena finally makes her appearance in the show as Vala's huggable but evil genetically altered daughter. I was happy to see the editors put together a more meaningful 'previously on Stargate' showing.

SG-1 starts out on a mission to observe a planet conquered by the Ori. They're hanging out in handy concealing local garb when Adria (Played by Morena) makes an appearance. She's got some pretty spiffy powers so I kept thinking that she'd detect her mother in the crowd. Instead she heads back inside, whispering something to her minion.

Time for my first nitpick. Now, there's a planet on the ship that certainly has Ori on it. Doesn't that thing have sensors? Wouldn't it have detected the enemy ship in orbit? It was in beaming range after all. Otherwise, it was a great beginning. (I was surprised that nobody wondered if the super-powered Adria managed to survive the attack.)

SG-1 figures out pretty quickly that the Jaffa probably used the Ancient weapon and they take the opportunity to check out the Ori ship. I laughed when Carter pulled out her huge dell laptop. Those things are sweet, but they're not very light weight. (A dell XPS is mil-spec? Huh?)

I thought that Landry's visit to the Jaffa by himself was a bit surprising. (At least he didn't do a bird call this time.)
Who'd he leave in command? It sure wasn't Walter. The new Jaffa leader was a pretty major jerk. He was so arrogant that I began to wonder if he was a Goa'uld being sneaky.

The most intriguing thing in this episode was what Adria said to Daniel. "We have plans for you." I'm pretty curious to know just what they got in mind for our twice ascended Daniel. (or is it 1.5 times? The second one was more like half-way)

The ending was a bit abrupt but I really liked Daniel's final sentiment about Vala being a mother. On the whole I enjoyed tonight's episode. It flowed pretty nicely with the exception of bad commercial break editing when Mitchell was about to blow up the ship. Morena is always a treat on screen. Her character's totally weird tho. She strangles people like Darth Vader, but the emotion in her voice makes you want to hug her rather than lop off body parts with a light saber.

Regarding the possibility of SG-1 on another channel and contractual stipulations: MGM can't try to move the show to another US channel. Unless I read erroneously.

Unfortunately, according to Gateworld, MGM's contract stipulates that MGM cannot shop the show around to another channel (but what about iTunes or MySpace?).

And apparently it wasn't the ratings that did the show in, but was the terms and costs of licensing the franchise that had Sci-Fi cancel the show so early.

I did find it odd that Sci-Fi put the kawoosh on an 11th season even before the mid-season break. I think they made the call to kill an 11th season when they accounced that BSG will be airing 20 straight eps and SG-1 and Atlantis won't return till March.

i think Sci-Fi will sign Stargate for another season if they don't then Stargate should sign with another channel.

the chemistry is excellent between Adria, Vala and Daniel Jackson. like a love triangle.

Sam's laptop serves two purposes:

1) Hook up to alien tech to make it work
2) The battery can be set to explode in case they run out of C4.

I don't think I can take seeing Morena Baccarin on television again for such a short-lived run. I know it's a superficial reason, but she's so darned beautiful I could watch her all day.

Gimme my Morena, damnit!! :)

This was a great episode. Stargate SG-1 is always at it's best when it mixes action and adventure with dramatic emotion. I have to Morena Baccarin was perfectly cast in the role of Adria. She's simply beautiful to look at, which makes it kind of creepy when she spouts all her religous fanatic stuff. The little tidbit about the Ori having a plan for Daniel Jackson was an interesting aside. We'll have to see how that plays out. Loved the interaction between Vala and Adria (Claudia Black and Morena Baccarin were great together). Once again, it's Claudia Black's Vala who is the emotional center of this series.

And it's Goa'uld not Ga'ould. Might I suggest spending some time with Gateworld.net in addition to Strunk (and personally I would stay away from Strunk and read the book "Woe Is I," great english book written in plain english).

Gateworld has a handy-dandy omnipedia with all the backgrounds and spellings for every race, planet and character in the Stargate universe. Good stuff.

Scifi Channel has to ask for a season 11! They have too much left to do! Will they ever meet the REAL furlings? Are all of the Tolans really dead? Did the Knox rescue them? And finally, they need to get O'Neill back. He's the only one that can kick that Ori chicks ass! It simply can't end!

Don't worry, you're writing about Sci-Fi. Just throw in a hot chick with some physical oddity (Morena Baccarin with red eyes, check), some one-liners (check), and an explosive action scene/personal revelation (missing).
