Too many theories out there to be sure. So I will add mine to cloud things up even further. I believe that all of the "crash survivors" are confined to a mental institution and the "Others' are the employees of the institution. Watch and think about this. Why have most of the crash survivors been involved in someones death in some way? Hurley and the deck collapsing, Sawer killing the wrong guy, Kate killing her mother's abusive boyfriend etc. The "Others" have taken away children because their parents are institutionalized, they promise freedom if everyone cooperates and Michaels release was due to his cooperation and ability to follow orders.
Again this is crazy and I have never thought about a television show this much and it's driving me crazy.

Great conjecture on everyone's part, really. But, howzabout another point of interest? Aside from the micro-reality in this show, how freaking fanTASTic that someone finally figured out a way integrate the web and standard television and make it interesting. For years no the powers that be have been going on and on about the confluence of the media. These guys actually figure out how to do it! Since the idea of the computer "replacing" the television is patently ridiculous and just won't happen in this lifetime it is great to see this happen. I have no problem with Monster.com or the "Lymon" spots or the Jeep placement, someone finally got corporations to accept that the creatives should lead the way. Instead of making us pay for content, make the content interesting and make it free and we will follow you down the rabbit hole.
Kudos to Lindelof, Abrams, Cuse and everyone involved for making a truly 21st century show.

locke and rose are now healed becasue when you die apparently all thats wrong with you goes away.
the children have already been taken because they havent lived long enough to be sinful and the children are pure and get to go first. someone was comming for locke because he hasnt done anything wrong. they keep talking about the good and bad people.

most other people have all sinned in there life.
ex. Annalousia was shot by michael because michael has spent enough time with the others to know the truth, annalousia was a bad person because she has killed.
micheal didnt mean to shot libby she hasnt done anything wrong.
locke talks about lght and dark sides-good and evil?
is the black shadow death or the devil?
also someone pointed out in the first series when jack and kate are talking on the beach the end of the show zooms up to the stary sky and apparently the stars and opposite of what they should be as though seen in a mirror OR from the other side, as though their above looking down- spooky stuff.
thers alot more example of all this dead stuff and heven and hell.
are the others acually the good people-like people to talk you to heven, the fact there just taking people and not hurting them except maybe people that are "bad".

Here's my take. The Dharma people developed a virus that targets specific genetic types, most likely the the types that are prone to hereditary genetic "failings" like diabetes, heart disease, mental illness, and other things that weaken the human race as a whole. This virus doesn't "cure" those problems, it kills people with them. Thus it lessens the overpopulation problem Earth is facing. Less people means less competition for Earth's dwindling resources, and less competion for resources means less chance of war, nuclear or otherwise.
The virus may have the ability to cure some afflictions,like cancer or nerve damage which are caused by outside sources, not genetic weakness. Which is why Locke can walk and Rose is no longer dying.

Whatever was released on the island is what is keeping Locke and Rose from being ill. There is something on the island that killed the natives but is now a hybrid, to keep all the losties well.

Has anyone been working on the puzzles. They are waaay cool. I have 1 and 2 and have just sent for 3. They say there's spoilers in them and I haven't found them yet but rumor has it that there really are some secrets revealed. The company supposedly got some inside information. FYI: The Hatch is #1 and it's laid out in a grid kinda like the dharma logo only bigger. Then there's pictures in eah section, some big and some really small. The 2nd one is The Others and there's a jungle background with lots of Others pictures that I haven't seen anywhere else but in the show. Also there's the foot and the smoke.

Any insight would be appreciated...

All Wrong - the "others" are "darhma" the villagers are/is the black smoke monster. That is actually people, but they have been phased out past time and space. If the human race was eventually going to be destroyed, the only way to survive would be in another space/time paradox. It's evident in the large 3 toed statue and the fact that "time" is not the same on the island.
