Desperate Housewives sex scene leaked on YouTube

ABC is reportedly flipping out over a rough cut of a Desperate Housewives sex scene that somehow made it onto YouTube. The scene is from season three and (obviously) hasn't even aired yet. It is about a minute long and, apparently, is a pretty steamy scene with Marcia Cross and Kyle MacLachlan. There were two versions of it on YouTube and one of them claimed that the scene had been cut from the episode. ABC execs say that's not true- the scene will air but probably not in its entirety since Bree (Cross) gets pretty darn excited. (The link is supposedly here but YouTube is doing maintenance tonight and ABC said it asked for the clip to be taken down)

Variety is reporting that execs at all networks are worried about pirated scenes making their way to YouTube before making air... of major concern is leaking of cliffhanger videos to ruin major episodes. While I totally enjoy watching clips of shows that have already aired and of pilots that never made air, it is obvious in this situation that someone did something very, very wrong. Leaking video before it airs just isn't cool, man.

This doesn't really give away a plotline - it's just titillating. It did its job - people started talking about the show again. I'm leaning towards it being a deliberate leak.

I both agree and disagree with you. I can see where networks would hate to see season cliffhangers or important events leaked before they air, but in this instances is it such a bad thing? I wouldn't be surprised if ABC's anger is all fake and someone in the organization leaked this scene to generate buzz for a show that's been in dire need of a little attention for over a year. This little leak will help draw viewers to show when it appears just to see how much of the scene actually airs in this FCC-controlled TV world we live in these days. ABC should just go with the flow.

Last year several episodes of Prison Break got leaked before they aired. Most of them were just copies of screeners critics get, but one was an actual early network cut that varied slightly from the aired version. It featured the kiss between Michael and Dr. Sara and got fans excited. I always wondered if it had been done on purpose or if it was a real leak.
