The Five: Brett's Fall Picks
Sliding in just under the wire ... Ok, a little tardy given that FOX has already fired up their entertainment machine, but none of those shows are on my list, so I think we are OK. I love this time of year. So many new episodes of so many shows that you have to start rethinking your sleep schedule. The clocks are set on the VCR's and there is 400 gigs of free space on the entertainment PC. Here are the five shows that I am most looking forward to. 1) Veronica Mars - After two great seasons, Veronica Mars has become my favorite show on television, bar none. I think the new three shorter mystery arcs format is going to work well. On top of that, the move to Tuesdays at 9/8 following Gilmore Girls gives the show its best time-slot to date. Hopefully that will bring a few more viewers to the table and we won't end season three wondering if there will be a season 4. I suspect that Veronica going to college is going to have a very similar feel to when Buffy did, and that sounds like a good thing.
2) Battlestar Galactica - Considering how Ron Moore and the BG team left us hanging at the end of last season, how can you not be amped to see Galactica return? When I heard that they were considering a time jump for the finale, I was skeptical. But having seen it play out, it was perfect. We enter season three with a wide open story that can go so many different directions. It should be fun. Also, if you love your Battlestar Galactica, don't forget to grab Ron Moore's podcast.
3) Studio 60 - It's always hard to guess which new shows are going to be hits and which ones are going to disappear before we know it. Going into last season I thought Threshold was a sure thing to make a season two. And we all know how that turned out. Having seen that happen a few too many times, I go in knowing that any of the new shows could be yanked out from under us at a moments notice, and that is why my list is light on new fare. Of all the new shows though, Studio 60 is the one I am most looking forward to. Given the amazing cast, and the team behind it, it seems like a can't miss hit. I was sold when I heard 'written by Aaron Sorkin, starring Bradley Whitford'. The rest of it is just icing on a very tasty cake.
4)Survivor - Yeah, yeah, I know. Reality TV this, and reality TV that. I fully acknowledge that it is not for everyone, but Survivor has become a regular part of my TV viewing schedule. So much so that I even play a fantasy Survivor game with a draft, and points for all kinds of different events that transpire on the island. I'll keep watching this one as long as they keep making it. Feel free to point and laugh.
5) Lucy, Daughter of the Devil - It has been nearly a year since Adult Swim premiered that first episode of Lucy, and here we are, still waiting. I keep hearing that they did order an additional ten episodes, and that those will air sometime in late 2006, but no official word on when. Based only on that one episode so long ago, it is a show I am eager to see more of. It has the potential to be another adult swim classic on the level of Venture Bros., Harvey Birdman, and Stroker and Hoop.
