Things I Hate About TV: Calling actors by their character names

Mary HartThe infotainment shows (The Insider, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, etc) are all moronic. Studies have shown that you actually lose brain cells when you watch them. That's no secret. But do they have to be so outrageously moronic?

I'm watching a repeat of yesterday's The Insider this morning, and they kept teasing an upcoming story about "Doctor McDreamy." They must have said the name at least five times, before the damn story even ran, later in the show.

Hey folks at The Insider: the guy has a name. It's Patrick Dempsey. He's been a fairly well known actor for, what, 20, 25 years? He must be so sick of people calling him "Doctor McDreamy." I think we should all start calling Pat O'Brien "Cokey McSexaddict."

It's not just that they should use Dempsey's real name, it's also that "Doctor McDreamy" happens to be a particularly stupid nickname. What, has the world turned into Teen Beat magazine?

Reminds me of when JAG was still on the air. Whenever they had a story about David James Elliott, Entertainment Tonight would call him "JAG," like it was his name or something. Morons.

Even though David James Elliot was on JAG for 10 years he has done many other projects and I'm sure he'll do many more. He'll be joining the cast of Close to Home soon and all his fans will follow him there. The guy has a name and even though he was the main character in JAG his name is: DAVID JAMES ELLIOT.

If the shoe fits, wear it. There is nothing more appropriate for Patrick Dempsey than Dr. Mc Dreamy after all.

They still do this with David James Elliott. In every TV report I've seen about his joining the cast of "Close to Home", they've called him "JAG". What? No one knows the man's name???

Did they only promo the segment 5 times?
The promos on these shows are so annoying I usually change the channel when I hear the 3rd promo for the same story.

I can't stand any of these shows. They all kiss so much celebrity ass, especially Mary Hart. I don't know how she lives with herself.
