Animal Planet plans tribute to Steve Irwin

by Richard Keller, posted Sep 6th 2006 8:04AM

Animal Planet plans a tribute to Steve IrwinThe partnership between Animal Planet (owned by Discovery Communications Inc.) and the late Steve Irwin can be traced to the network's inception in 1996. Back then, Irwin's series The Crocodile Hunter was one of the initial offerings of the fledgling network. The pairing of the two resulted in Irwin becoming an international star and Animal Planet reaching 160 countries across the globe. That's why it's no surprise that Animal Planet channels around the globe will honor Irwin on Sunday, September 10th with an all-day marathon of Best of the Croc Hunter programming.

This is just one way that DCI will honor Irwin. According to a press release posted on their website, a Steve Irwin Crocodile Hunter Fund (which will be nicknamed "The Crickey Fund") will be created to provide a way to make contributions in Steve's honor to support wildlife protection, education and conservation. The Fund will also provide support for Irwin's Australia Zoo in Beewah, Australia, as well as educational support for his children, Bindi and Bob. In a further tribute, DCI will be renaming the garden space in front of their Silver Spring, Maryland headquarters to The Steve Irwin Memorial Garden.

Information on The Crocodile Hunter and other Steve Irwin shows that will air on Animal Planet over the next few days can be found at their website.

Steve Irwin's death has sadden the world as it did
when Princess Diane past.
Yet we can thank God for the time they were here.

Saying Goodbye

So much death surrounds me now, how scarey can it be
A dear friend has gone to a much better place,
Yet is it better for you and me
We cry our tears and hide our heads, scared to show our fear
To cry for another in death or happiness is not to be ashamed of
We should be proud that our feelings can be seen
For so many people these days show nothing from their hearts
But only the drab and weariness that they dwell in
There is no more pain in our friends that are gone,
Only the pain left in our hearts
We have our memories, some good and some bad, yet the good
Will always stand out
We must say goodbye now, go on with our lives
But remember, please always remember their spirit and good
Times will always be with us all for these can never die.

For Terri, Bindi & Bob,

My heart goes out to you all. I know you have had an enormous number of messages now but I felt compelled to send you my deepest sympathies. Like many others have said, Steve was a great man, a cool wildlife guy & an amazing conservationist who has left a lasting legacy. However, above all he was a lovely, warm husband & father with such beautiful, kind eyes & I know you must all be in such terrible pain but remember, his love will always be part of your lives & Steve is still with you too even though you no longer see him. This life is not the end, it is part of an eternal adventure.

Steve Irwin will never be forgotten. He touched our hearts, our souls. I remember a day last year when somehow a 15" lizard made his way through the doggie door into my livingroom. The first thing I thought of was "what would Steve do" I managed to capture the lizard and set him free into the bushes. Thank you Steve for educating us on the importance of preservation and the importance of every living being to the environment. My prayers are with the family during this difficult time.

The untimely passing of Steve Irwin is a great tragedy. This has effected my family more than I could have imagined; he has been a great influence on myself and my two boys. The world will never be the same. In the past, I have dealt with this type of emotional pain through music. Being a song writer and composer, I have written musical compositions and songs to honour friends, family, and fallen heroes to ease the pain and commemorate the contributions they've made in life. Steve falls under the obvious catagory of "HERO." Please accept and share with the world this musical tribute in honour of the great "CROCODILE HUNTER" Steve Irwin.. WE LOVE YOU STEVE!!!!

Sincerely:
