Fred Phelps just says no to Stewart and Colbert -- VIDEO

by Annie Wu, posted Sep 8th 2006 8:37AM
Stephen and JonYou know you've really made it to the big leagues when an infamous religious zealot pins you as a big reason why half of humanity won't make it to Heaven. Congratulations, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert! Fred Phelps just put you two on his personal "Dead to Me" board. Let's rain down some fire (and confetti) to celebrate.

Yeah. Apparently, Reverend Fred Phelps didn't enjoy Jon and Stephen's little presentation during this year's Emmys. He put his rant in video form, bashing the two for making God's wrath a joke. I tried putting all my concentration into watching the rant in its entirety, but I had to keep pausing to remind myself that Phelps isn't kidding. Catch the video after the jump.

(WARNING: Listening to Fred Phelps for more than two consecutive minutes may cause one to lose faith in all humanity)

Wow, this guy is ignorant. I am also a bible-believe christian and condemn Phelps for this garbage. He takes verses out of context, and uses them for purposes of hate and contempt. He is totally out of line. John Stewart and Stephan Colbert are comedic geniuses who enlighten us with their insightfulness and humor. Does Phelps realize that when Colbert made that comment, he was just acting? The Stephan Colbert character is a satire of extreme conservatives.

As another Bible-believing Christian, I would like to raise my voice and say that Phelps is out of line - I don't condone homosexuality at all, but it is TOTALLY out of line to have all this "God Hates Fags" stuff...its disgusting and repulsive, and Im sorry that this guy is out there promoting this.

Phelps and his ilk make those infamous Muslim extremists look like compassionate teddy bears. Has he never heard of "judge not, lest ye be judged" or "practice what you preach" or "do unto others as you would have them do unto you"?

I wish his mothership would hurry back and take him home to planet Nutjob.

Holy crap (literally).

When I saw the opening credits 'GOD HATES FAGS', I thought this was a piece on The Daily Show!

I have now lost believe in any god, no god could have created such an annoying gas bag.

Does he even have a brain, or just a bible in his head?

Nope, Phelps is for real. Unfortunately.

Along with blaming homosexuals for all ills in the world (and protesting loudly), he's also been known to protest at military funerals (and he relates that to homosexuals).

For how much he talks about homosexuals, it really makes you wonder.

um... crap. okay...

on behalf of Christians everywhere (normal ones) i'd like to apologize for Mr. Phelps' ignorance. he's not really representative of God, Jesus, or anyone associated with them in a real way.

ps... i'm a Bible believing Christian who loves Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert (even if i don't agree with everything they say) and thought that what they said at the Emmy's was pretty much the funniest part of the show. (though Bob Newhart in an airtight box was funny too. as was Kareem Abdul-Jabar as an accountant and Conan singing "Trouble.")

pps... i do like that Phelps showed a piece of toast at that one part. that was funny. (though i don't think he intended it to be so).

ppps... holy crap... he's still talking as i write this!

Wow...If I didn't know he was being serious I would have sworn that was a sketch from something like Mr. Show. Especially at the end...those website addresses are ridiculous!
