NBC launches user video site

Ok, when I first heard that NBC was launching a user video site, I jumped to the conclusion that they were hopping on the bandwagon and trying to create something like YouTube. Now having had a look at the site, I'll give them credit for trying something a little different. The new site, It's Your Show, presents users with a series of challenges. Challenge #4, for example, is "Sitcom of Your Family." It asks users to create a sitcom that includes a theme song, audience applause, and an 'awe schucks' moment.

To help the amateur auteurs along the way, the site provides sound effects, music, and video clips. Winners of the weekly challenges will get $1000, and someone will win $100,000 for the best overall clip. At some point, there will be a TV show, hosted by Carson Daly, that shows a collection of the best clips. It sounds to me like America's Funniest Home Videos, only these people don't have to pretend that their videos weren't set up.

The site is still in beta, and there isn't a lot of content as of yet, but I recommend you head over and take a look at Brooke's videos. Crazy man, crazy.
