Will ABC pull 9/11 movie?

by Joel Keller, posted Sep 8th 2006 3:32PM
Harvey Keitel in The Path to 9/11There is speculation that ABC, bowing to protests by former President Clinton and other Democratic supporters, may pull the movie The Path to 9/11, which is set to air this weekend.

Variety writer William Triplett reports that, while ABC publicly stands by the movie and is saying small last-minute edits are being made to the entire program, insiders are saying that they might pull the entire thing. This is the same the "path of least resistance" tactic that CBS used when they pulled their miniseries The Reagans when Republican groups protested the movie unfairly portrayed Ronal Reagan's presidency.

Seems like a rash move by ABC, considering it's a two-night affair. There are people -- including 9/11 Commission co-chair Tom Kean -- who have seen the movie and said it's accurate and both sides get slammed equally. So maybe everyone should just calm down and watch it to this point. At least Scholastic has pulled its participation in the program. The educational aspect was the scariest part of this whole mess.

ABC are wondering if they should air another TOTAL WHITEWASH of 9/11?

That really says alot about the state of freedom of speech in the USA.

9/11 was an inside job, WTC1, WTC2 and WTC7 were brought down by controlled demolition. Don't take my word for it, spend 12 minutes and watch

http://torrentchannel.com/9-11/Are_The_Criminals_Frightened

and do your own research http://st911.org/ is a great place to start.

ABC airing this whitewash is an issue of minor importance compared to the obvious fact that ABC will not allow any serious 9/11 researcher to speak on their show; now will they show any of the hard-hitting 9/11 documentaries made such as

http://torrentchannel.com/9-11/911_-_The_Great_Illusion

Now, it must be noted that most hard-hitting 9/11 movies can be freely distributed and freely aired, ask yourself: Why would ABC not air a movie they don't have to pay anything for? Download and watch and judge for yourself.

I think perhaps that this TV program may be worth watching because it illustrates the lack of leadership that has been a persistent theme throughout the Clinton and Bush presidencies. American citizens need to wake up and vote for politicians that can effectively squelch the barbaric nature of Muslim fanaticism. So far the Clinton-Bush oligarchy has failed on many levels to prepare us against the growing threat of an enemy that will absolutely do anything to anihilate us.

I have not heard anyone claim that ABC didn't have the right to show the movie, which might be considered a violation of free speech. I'm questioning their taste in planning to air a fictional and dramatized movie about something that is so important to us, and still such a part in our daily lives.

To me it has nothing to do with which party or president looks worse. I do care about whether or not they portray events accurately. Again, if the movie claimed that the memo "Bin Laden determined to strike in US" gave President Bush all the information he needed to stop the attack and he ignored it, I would be outraged.

These were real events that affected the entire world, and the government officials as well as the victims don't deserve to have their stories belittled in an attempt to get ratings or influence opinions.

But if ABC wants to air the movie as is, that's their right. I won't ever dispute that.

ABC SHOULD pull the movie. It's full of inaccuracies. Why would they want to help distort the truth? There will be plenty of that done by the Bush Administration. ABC doesn't need to help them. Media groups should be seekers of truth, not purveyors of propaganda.

What are all you lib's afraid of? Me thinks thou dost protest too much. You lib's want this one pulled because you think that it speaks poorly of the democrats and the ever beloved Bill Clinton and his gang of P.C. irrelevants. Seems the news media inaccurated crucified Carl Rove and Dick Cheney over that whole Valerie Plame matter - seems they were 100% wrong on that - where's the outrage on that inaccuracy? Lib's are so hypocritical. The Reagan "film" was simply disrespectful, but I would have wanted it to air anyway, because who cares? But this is an attack on the First Amendment by those who claim to covet same as if it were the holy word of Moses. I guess the First Amendment is only applicable where Lib's say it is. I guess some people are more equal than others. Me thinks thou dost protest too much.

If this docudrama is based on fact, then it should be shown in its entirety. If it blames both sides, why is it that we are only hearing from the democrats? I would love to see the real story of 9/11 but if it can be proven that this is not for real, then it should not be aired at all. And, if it is true or even close to the truth, is it the 'truth that hurts? that is causing all this flap? I wonder....

Tom Kean's son Tom Kean Jr. is the Republican candidate running for the U.S. Senate in New Jersey against a candidate supported by Bill Clinton. That's a major conflict of interest and the "docudrama" must be pulled.

The integrity of the 9/11 Commission report is in question. Many people don't realize this because network news is not far removed from their entertainment programming.

"Are we going to go back and label "Bowling for Columbine" a "fictionalized drama" as well? Because by now we all know that the "walk in to a bank, get a gun" did not occur, and that's just one example."

It did occur, but Moore edited out the FBI background check and waiting period that were required before he could leave with his gun. This made it appear as though he could get a gun in a matter of minutes, when in reality it took about a week.

I'd call that very biased editing and spin, which to me is different than making something up that involves any high-ranking members of our government. Would it be okay to make a movie showing the "Bin Laden determined to strike in US" memo as containing the date, time, and details of the 9/11 plot? Not only would that be absurd, I would find it hugely insulting and irresposible.

No, Raydeen. That's not it.

You can't yell "fire!" in a crowded theatre when there isn't one. Because it's dangerous.

ABC (et al) can air fictional dramas all it wants; no one will or could stop them from that. BUT when ABC airs fiction and pretends it's true, that is irresponsible, and dishonest, and disgraceful.
