Scandal! Mario Lopez may have lied about dancing past

by Anna Johns, posted Sep 18th 2006 12:01PM
mario lopezThe A&E folks over at the San Jose Mercury News sound pretty convinced that Dancing with the Stars frontrunner Mario Lopez has more dancing experience than he claims. On last week's premiere, Mario apparently suggested that he's had no formal dance training. The Dancing message boards lit up, claiming that he had dancing training before he was on Kids, Incorporated and his IMDB bio says that he worked as a dancer before he got the gig on Saved by the Bell. Another commenter even claims to have taken dance lessons with Lopez when they were both kids. (As if anonymous comments can be taken as the God's honest truth.)

Why would Mario lie? Does he think a win will do to his career what it did to John O'Hurley's career? I think he just needs to look at Drew Lachey for his answer.

Ok, first of all your headline said he MAY have lied. I don't think he'd lie about not having received any formal training. And Kids, Incorporated was A LONG TIME AGO. I think he got his dancing naturally, and being on that Kids, Incorporated show helped him dance. So, really before we go reporting that he MAY or MAY NOT have had training we need to know for sure, because it's not news unless it is known for a fact. I don't care either way. He's a good dancer and I want to see him win. He's that good. And John O'Hurley is a whine bag, I think this season is way better than the one before Drew Lachey. Having to listen to John O'Hurley whine about wanting to win and making the winner come back and do it again was pathetic...that made for uninteresting TV, not seeing someone who can dance, dance. :-)

IMDB is not a reliable source--it is compiled by people on the web without verification.

Get off your high horses people! Mario has had NO formal dancing. Dance lessons as a kid does not count. Jazz lessons does not count. He's obviously a natural dancer. If you watched "So you think you can dance", you'll notice that when these formally-trained adult dancers danced out of their genre, they weren't good. Mario has natural dancing talent. Sara Evans has NONE and I bet she's had jazz dance lessons too. She sucks! Mario is GREAT! Did Joey have lessons? He's very good too. Did last year's winner Drew? He was good too. Jerry Rice sucked but had a fan base to vote blindly much like Sara does this year.

Mr. Lopez was a cast regular dancer for years on KIDS INCORPORATED. Full seasons. It was way more than some break dancing or dance classes. When I read about the 'celebrity' line-up prior to Dancing With the Stars airing, I immediately thought that it wouldn't be a fair competition. I've got DOZENS of KIDS INCORPORATED episodes on tape where he's floating around like a ballet dancer. NO KIDDING! HE'S REALLY THAT GOOD! So gracefull at such a young age. So the premise of the show seems to launch Mr. Lopez to the next level in his career. No contest!

He grew up in Chula Vista (southbay San Diego) just a fe wblocks from my house. He went to the Chula Vista school of performing arts and danced. He tried out for the m ickey mouse club several times and other dance shows beyond kid inc. He has been taking Jazz and such since we were kids. I saw him at the same classes i took! So it isn't ballroom dancing, but any modern dance gives him formal training!!!

When they asked Mario if he had dance training, he said no, not really, but my mother did have me in some dance classes as a kid. He never tried to deny that.

Who cares?? He is PRETTY and I want to watch him move, week after week. Furthermore, just because he danced does not mean he had training...maybe he came by it naturally.

Lopez Dances like professional. You know he has had previous training. Hardly fair to the others. It actually makes the show less interesting.
