Again with the Dane Cook: comedian hosts SNL premiere

Dane CookIn the press release announcing the cast for the 32nd season of Saturday Night Live (which, of course, by process of elimination, announces who isn't coming back), NBC has also announced that ultra-hot ("hot" as in popular) comedian Dane Cook will host the season premiere.

This is the second time that Cook has hosted the show; he hosted last December, making this as quick a turnaround between hosting stints as I can remember. But there's three good reasons why Cook is back so soon: 1) He's even more popular with SNL's current college-student demographic than he was last year, 2) He's starring in a movie with Jessica Simpson called Employee of the Month, and 3) He was in one of the more memorable sketches from last season's forgettable run. If you remember the line "It's like a wookie raping me!", you'll know which sketch I'm talking about.

The season premiere, with musical guest The Killers, will be on September 30.

I don't like Dane Cook. He doesn't understand that shouting the words balls and taint repeatedly isn't funny for everyone. But Dane Cook sadly is a ratings magnet. So SNL wants to keep those numbers up so we'll have to deal with it. But the season premieres are usually unbalanced anyway and with the smaller cast and crew it will take some adjustment so it's good to get this clunker out of the way.

Look at me! I'm so cutting edge! I hate on everything that is popular and cool right now!
Dane Cook is good. You don't get to where he is if you don't have something. SNL, on the other hand, continues to suprise me by sticking around. Anyone have viewing stats for SNL?

Youch. Dane Cook again? At least this will make the SNL cast seem much more hilarious by comparison.

I like to laugh at comedy shows so I guess I'll wait until the second show of the season.

Lorne must be having a hard time finding anyone for the hosting gig. Two appearances in less than a year by Cook? Not a good sign. Celebrities must have smelt the stink from last season and are waiting to see how the writing for this season will be. This is a rebuilding season for SNL, but I know it will rebound. It always does.

Dane Cook is an embarassment to comedy. He should stay away from acting, and focus on his skills -- hair frosting and delightful recreations of the act of defecation.

Let's all hope that this time around, the material Dane has to work w/ is a lot better. I tuned in last December hoping for a funny show, but it was one of the worst SNLs in awhile. The sweater skit made me giggle, maybe once, but that was it.
