Justice and Happy Hour going on early hiatus

by Brett Love, posted Sep 24th 2006 1:01PM
Happy Hour castAnd here we go. If you work on a network television series, one of the worst things you can hear is that your show is going 'on hiatus'. Sure, every once in a while that just means that the show is taking a little break. But more often than not it's the PC way for executives to tell you that the ratings numbers suck out loud and you need to start looking for a new gig.

With that in mind, Fox has placed Justice and Happy Hour on an early hiatus. Early because it was expected that most of the network's shows would get a little break when the baseball playoffs take over the schedule. But Happy Hour and Justice will be starting their break early, being replaced by repeats of 'Til Death and House.

Right now, the Fox website says that Happy Hour will return Nov.2, with no word on when Justice is supposed to resume. Of course, this makes the TV Squad contest to pick the first show to get canceled a whole big ball of fun. We'll have to wait and see if these shows are officially canceled. Stay tuned.

Happy Hour was awesome. I didn't think it had a chance, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and started actively looking forward to it. Figures that Fox would torch it. Morons.

Justice has no idea what it wanted to be. It tries to be so many different shows that it completely lacks substance. It too was removed from my ReplayTV last week.

Wierd, since the radio station that has Eric and Kathy in the mornings had mentioned a week ago that Happy Hour was cancelled...guess they decided to show one more episode then make it final? I wonder though what inside info they had to have had to make that comment then...

I had basically "canceled" Justice this week and removed the season pass from my Tivo. I gave it three episodes and it just didn't do anything for me. The only thing I really liked about the show is it showed you what really happened in the crime at the end.

ACCORDING TO THE FOX WEBSITE -- they are repeating the justice pilot on Friday, sept 29th at 8P before the celebrity duets finale and it looks like this wed, there is still justice. Happy Hour is being replaced this week with another episode of Til Death. Let everyone know who have not seen the pilot to catch it this friday

I loved justice, I hope it returns. It is one of my top favorite new series this year -- well acted, well produced.

I'm not surprised by Happy Hour, it's a terrible show, but I am surprised Justice is getting the yank so quickly. Granted, it's not doing stellar in the ratings, but outside of American Idol and House what FOX show is? Seems like FOX wouldn't want to piss off Jerry Bruckheimer. I'm surprised they're keeping Vanished over Justice -- a much better show. Of course, the fact that Vanish is produced by Fox and Justice is produced by Warner Bros. might just answer my own question.

I enjoyed Justice as well, I hope this doesn't mean it's gone for good.

I'll bet FOX wanted to save face and pull the show early so that it wouldn't have to compete at all with 'Lost' before the baseball break.

But if they pulled it the same week 'Lost' came back, it would be an obvious admittance of this.

So they pulled it a week before the return of 'Lost' and that means we miss out on a chance for one last episode this coming Wednesday. (I'm assuming the hiatus is effective immediately?)

It's a shame because I liked 'Justice'. High tech at their disposal and the media manipulation was a novel approach. (It's hard to picture Perry Mason operating in that brave new world!)

And the role of Ron Trott fit Victor Garber better than one of OJ's gloves.
